Shoppers were dazzled by balancing acts, an illusionist and a ‘world globe’ juggling act at the Barclaycard stand at Eastgate Shopping Centre this weekend.
“While these acts of legerdemain wowed young and old alike, the true hero of the performance was Barclaycard itself. Have you noticed just how often stores try to sell you more than you intended to buy? It’s been happening for years. Actually when I worked for a department store years ago, the store even offered a class to teach us how to “trade up”. The customer would come in to buy a handbag and we were instructed to suggest one that was more expensive. I won’t say what department store it was, but I’m sure that they all do it.

“IMPULSE shoppers, watch out. Your cellphone might soon get you into trouble.
A company called ShopText has introduced a system that lets people buy products instantly using text messages, a process that eliminates the need to go to a store or even visit a Web site. If you use a credit card for your purchases, be sure that it rewards you with travel miles, or points that you can use in another way. I, for example, have one card that is accepted everywhere, offering 1 point for every dollar. The points can then be traded in for free groceries. Okay, I usually pick up a lot of “free” cosmetics and magazines this way… as well as groceriesl! Works for me!

Keep a running dollar total of your purchases each month. There is nothing worse than receiving a credit card bill in the mail for a lot more than you expected. It’s the tiny purchases (on sale or not) that add up. It definitely helps you decide on whether or not to indulge.

Heads up… Visa wants to make it as easy for us to shop as possible. They have created a tiny credit card that can be attached to your keyring. And if Visa is doing it, all the credit card companies will start doing it! Remember that Harrods card I showed you a few weeks back. I wonder??
And needless to say… I think I will be wanting a few of these!
