Fashion Week Spring 2010: Allude

From what I know about Allude, they are a luxury cashmere company. I always think of their stuff for fall and winter. When seeing Allude on the runway at Fashion Week Spring 2010, it was a little out of place for me. After all, not many of us wear cashmere in the spring, right?
Nevertheless, they had a good show with lots of pastels and brights, along with unique combinations of cashmere tops with swimwear.
Though you might not be hanging out by the pool with a cashmere sweater on top of your bikini, the pieces are very wearable if you mix …read more
Milly Spring 2010 Runway at NYFW

I really enjoy the looks of Milly at New York Fashion Week.
Essentially, it’s the clothes i wear in day-to-day life. It’s ready-to-wear — and yes, commercial – clothes that will take very little alternation before hitting the mall.
The collection is very girlie – there’s bows, and frills, and ruffles, and pinks. Everything feminine and frilly and, as I said, me. It was absolutely in my top five shows of the week. Check it out below!
Anna Sui Spring 2010 NYFW Presentation

I have a soft spot for Anna Sui – one of my very first ever designer items was a sweater by her.
Due to her new line for Target, she’s been getting more buzz than ever this season, and I was super excited to see her show. It did not disappoint! Always known as a bit of a hippie in the designer world, her looks had a lot of a retro feel. She showed looks that paired dresses paired with vests, military jackets with boho tunics, and shorter dresses with fitted knee-length shorts.
It was ’80s, but with a modern edge. I …read more
Fashion Week Spring 2010: Marc Jacobs

At the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the clothes were a mixed bag of textures. Lots of ruffles were combined with everything from structured military jackets to sheer, footless ballerina leggings. The models wore heavy powder and high buns, for a Geisha/opera/theatrical look.
Though you might not be able to wear the mish-mosh of fabrics and textures like the girls on the runway, you can definitely pick and choose pieces from the collection to wear. I definitely liked the blue plaid dress and the handbags were top-notch with woven styles accented with tassels and fringe.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Derek Lam

Derek Lam’s fashions are generally elegant and sophisticated. So it was great to see him break out the colors and the fun in his Spring 2010 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. There was no general color palette or underlying theme. It was like a carnival of colors and silhouettes — definitely eye-catching and certainly fitting for spring. Some of the fashions had a retro 70s flavor, but it was much more than that.
The show finished up with what some were calling “bodysuits” but they were more like a blouson tops attached to swimsuit bottoms.

Vivienne Tam Spring 2010 Presentation

Oh my god.
This has been my favorite show so far. (And not just because I got interviewed by Yuli Ziv for StyleCaster beforehand! Did anyone see?)
We go into Fashion Week expecting elements of Spring – but few collections really embodied this facet as much as Vivienne Tam. Butterflies were a major theme, and the colors were bold, varied, and full of sheen. Some designs even had a bit of a retro-Woodstock era feel to them, with a distinctly modern touch.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Georges Chakra

Though I love looking for the fashions that can translate well from the runway to the streets, one of my favorite parts of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is checking out the fashions that I will never wear but are outrageously beautiful.
At the Georges Chakra Spring 2010 fashion show at the Promenade at Bryant Park on Saturday, I adored many of the colorful gowns. And though I can’t imagine myself wearing them anytime soon, they were definitely fun. The flowing gowns were embellished with silver belts, pretty pleats and embellished necklines.
Here are just a few of my personal favorites.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Nicole Miller

While many designers get into the light and bright colors for spring, Nicole Miller did something a little different with Spring 2010 collection.
On Day 2 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Friday, Nicole Miller displayed several dresses that paired ocean-colored prints with black for a more edgy look. She also threw in some metallic dresses and an assortment of shorts. It was a “tougher” collection than I’d expect from Nicole Miller, especially for spring, though there were quite a few whites and beautiful blues in flowing fabrics mixed in.
Here are just a few of my favorite dresses from the show.

On My Bod for Fashion’s Night Out

Today is the first official day of New York Fashion Week, however, tonight is a pretty big deal in and of itself – it’s Fashion’s Night Out.
Just about everyone who is anyone is throwing an event tonight, in an effort to celebrate fashion, shopping, and – they hope – buying.
One of my main stops this evening will be hanging with the Purple Lab NYC gang at Scoop Street – they are even picking me up in a purple Ford Fiesta! In order to show them (extra) love, I shall be wearing purple tonight as well.
On my bod – by Shabby …read more
