Wear Less Makeup
In the warmer months, you should use much less makeup than you do in the winter. Put away the dark lipsticks and liners. This spring, keep your makeup routine simple. A tinted moisturizer is a lighter alternative to heavy foundation. For daytime, wear neutral color eye shadows and a coat of brown mascara. Add just a touch of lip gloss and you are good to go.

Drink Lots of Water
Water is great for your skin, your body and your overall health. Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day, even more if you are exercising. Always drink a glass of water before meals, it will make you feel full so that you eat less. Speaking of exercise, try to get in 30 minutes a day of cardio to start getting your body in swimsuit shape!

Exfoliate and Moisturize
To keep your skin fresh all year long, you need to exfoliate on a regular basis. Estee Lauder makes a great exfoliating product that is gentle and refreshing. You can get this scrub for around $22 at Estee Lauder counters at most department stores. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin too. The sun can dehydrate your skin, increasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In warm weather, choose a light facial moisturizer that has SPF 15 or more.

Color Me Beautiful
This spring, bright colors are going to be more popular than ever. When choosing spring dresses, tops, shoes and handbags, select colors such a bright orange and sunny yellow. Some of the hottest sandals of the season feature a strappy, criss-cross style in yellow, orange and even neon pink. Whether you are looking a pair of flip flops or stilettos, make sure the colors are bold and hot.

‘Tis the season…to feel tired! Between work, shopping, class, parties and a whole other host of obligations, the days seem longer and longer and sleep can be at a premium. When that’s the case, there is no need to trudge through the holidays season looking anything less than bright and shiny. All you have to do is add one simple step to your makeup routine: Grab a shimmering eye shadow in a light color and get dusting!

Yes, it’s true. The difference a facial highlighter can make (even a makeshift one) is astronomical. Here’s the scoop:

• Use a light-colored and/or shimmery eye shadow in the area between your eyes and the bridge of your nose to lift the darkness many of us carry there. Try applying a small amount first, then go from there. You can always add more.
• After using the same shadow on your eyelids (don’t be afraid to reach up to the brow bone, as that area can cast shadows too), smudge a little extra out to the outer corner of your eye. This helps balance out what you’ve just done in the inner corner and brightens that area as well.
• Finally, depending on just how tired your face looks (get some sleep, girl!), you can also use the same shadow on the tops of your cheekbones, under the eye area. Again, apply sparingly here, and if you end up applying so much you look like you’re glowing (and not in a good way), just grab some pressed or loose powder and sweep over any extra shimmer.

What to use? You can try an actual product marketed as a facial highlighter or you can use any light-colored, shimmery eye shadow. Keep in mind, “shimmery” does not equate to “glittery”. There is a big difference. Shimmery formulas will reflect light naturally and won’t look too conspicuous. Glittery should be left for all the parties you’ll be attending!

Now, go forth and shop. Study. Party and more. After a big day of fun, you’ll still look like you’ve slept like a normal person with this new little makeup trick. Enjoy!

Regardless of your age, at one time or another, you will be subjected to the beauty woe that is fine lines. Wrinkles. Crow’s feet. You know what I’m talking about.

But what if I gave you a very simple way to keep fine lines at bay? Because I’m about to do just that…

Use an eye makeup remover! Every day.

There – simple plan, isn’t it? But oh so effective. Because each night as I shower, I find myself literally scrubbing my eyelids to remove all traces of mascara and eyeliner. Then I hop out, look in the mirror, discover I haven’t gotten it all, and begin tugging and rubbing all over again.

Of course, this is awful news because the skin around our eyes is some of the thinnest and most easily damaged skin on our bodies. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you’re abusing a delicate area, you’re bound to have lasting effects – in the form of wrinkles. I (and you) could avoid this unnecessary damage simply by using an eye makeup remover daily. Easy peasy.

So while there are zillions of lotions and potions out there (not to mention Botox and other fillers) to fix wrinkles when they take hold, what better way to extend the longevity of your healthy skin than by with an inexpensive drugstore beauty fix?

Ready for one of the coolest beauty tips I’ve heard in ages? Thought so.

Pump your lashes up to the next level by warming your eyelash curler with your hair dryer for a few seconds before you use it (just be careful not to touch the hot metal to the skin of your eyelid! Doh!) Heating up your curler instantly turns your simple $4 eyelash curler into a mini curling iron. Genius!

Also remember to curl as close to the base of your lashes as comfortably possible, then curl again in the middle. Bam! Instant notice-me eyes!

It seems like lately I’ve been reading some of the greatest beauty tips. I see them all over the place: in magazines, online, on TV, etc. And since we’re all in this game of looking gorgeous together, I figured I’d start a new segment here at The Lounge. Please join me in welcoming our new baby: Beauty Tip Friday – Random Tricks to Make You Fabulous! Some of these tips may be brand new to you, and some you may have heard, but forgotten about. In any case, I hope you find them fun and useful.

Random Tip #1 - Extend the life of your lipstick. Apply your lipstick with a lipstick brush, rather than straight from the tube. You’ll use a lot less lipstick this way and will have better control over where the color ends up on your pout.

Random Tip #2 - Keep your mani chip-proof and fresh. Apply a thin horizontal swipe across the top edge of (and slightly underneath) your nail at the end of each coat. This keeps the polish from pulling away from the tip as it dries, which can lead to chipping troubles.

Random Tip #3 - Control fly-aways with a dryer sheet (or hand cream if no dryer sheet is handy). The lightweight softeners in dryer sheets can smooth your hair’s dry cuticles and tame it down in a hurry. If you should happen to discover the horror that is fuzz-head while you’re at school, bust out some hand cream, warm it between your palms, and smooth it gently over those unruly strands. Voila!

Random Tip #4 - Save money on shampoo. Believe it or not, your hair will be just fine with less shampoo, rather than more. Since shampoos are now more concentrated than ever, you really only need about a quarter-sized dollop to do the trick.

Random Tip #5 – Keep your nail polish fresh and thin. Storing your polish in the fridge will stabilize its ingredients and keep it from becoming too thick and gooey. (This is an especially good tip with warm and humid weather fast approaching!)
