At the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the clothes were a mixed bag of textures. Lots of ruffles were combined with everything from structured military jackets to sheer, footless ballerina leggings. The models wore heavy powder and high buns, for a Geisha/opera/theatrical look.
Though you might not be able to wear the mish-mosh of fabrics and textures like the girls on the runway, you can definitely pick and choose pieces from the collection to wear. I definitely liked the blue plaid dress and the handbags were top-notch with woven styles accented with tassels and fringe.

Welcome to the insanity! NYFW started this morning–actually, in many ways, it started yesterday–and the masses have all converged upon New York’s Bryant Park.

Obviously, a splurge – but it’s one of those statement bags that will define you for the sexy powerful woman you are – and does THAT have a price tag? (Yes, I am rationalizing.) Marc Jacobs’ fashions are usually fun and unique, but sometimes just odd. Some garments leaving you scratching your head and thinking, “What the heck?” When I saw this metallic pleated dress at Bergdorf Goodman, I didn’t know what to think. Would someone actually buy this?
The blue metallic top reminds me of mylar balloons or shiny wrapping paper. The skirt seems like it’s just a black trash bag. Everything is pulled together with a thick bronze and black leather sash with a giant safety pin. Where could you wear this?

I’m a big fan of Marc Jacobs and normally love all his designs, even the ones that are slightly odd. However, I came upon these “boots” from his Marc by Marc Jacobs line and I just don’t get it.
They feature navy and white striped canvas and a lace-up front. I think they are supposed to be a little sporty and nautical, but then they have a short boot heel. Go figure.
So… are they ugly or do I just not understand the appeal? What would you wear them with?
