More Retro-Chic: The A-Line Dress Returns

How can you not remember the absolutely hot 60s-style A-line shift dress?

It’s a little vintage, ever so slightly mod, but classically gorgeous – and it’s back!

A great example of a now-take on this retro look is the Milly Fabulous Obelisk A Line Shift Dress. It’s a very “uptown” look, and would look great with gold jewelry and upswept hair, my fave part is the buckled self-belt at empire waist and slant pockets at hip.

Another reason I love this style: ANYONE can wear it! Whether you are 25 or 55, it is an appropriate choice, and the A-line silhouette is very forgiving to our “curves”, skimming over the stomach and hips.

Totally cute – I’m down with this trend. (And perhaps this dress.)

TIBI’s Ainsley Weave Dress

The last few days, I’ve been engaging in a voyeuristic form of retail therapy in order to feel better about my recently stress-tastic life.

Voyeuristic because I keep searching for things I can’t actually have, but love to look at anyway. One such is the totally spring-adorable Ainsley Weave Dress by Tibi, $341 at ChickDowntown.com
If you haven’t noticed from previous posts, I love pink tweed, as well as the mod style. This has both, as well as a really playful style.

The crisp white tank and glossy resin stones is a great contrast with the skirt, as well – I’d wear this to work! If I could afford it.

60s MOD JUMPER COAT PANTS

Do you by any chance know how to run a sewing machine?? I’m only asking because I tried and gave up. Could never get the tension thingie to work for me. I can thank my lack of patience for that!! But now I wish that I had stuck with it. Just found this pattern that you can order and seeing that the fall is going to be all about the sixties, I thought that some of you just might want to try their hand at creating something from an authentic pattern. Looks pretty cool! Must point out… the price of the pattern has gone up lol…

French Connection Herringbone Wool Jacket for Fall 2008

I told you a few weeks ago that fall fashion for 2008 was going to be based on the sixties. With some of the items it was a stretch to see the connection, but not so with this jacket. It is sooooo sixties. Here’s another jacket that says it all. It’s from French Connection and I think that it is going to be huge when the cooler weather sets in… not that I even want to think about fall and cooler temps.

I can just see Jean Shrimpton AND Twiggy sporty something like this as they wandered down Carnaby Street a few decades ago. Did I ever mention that I spent my honeymoon in London, England and Carnaby Street was the first thing I wanted to see!

Ahhh, the memories.

Burberry Bringing Back the Sixties

Now if this doesn’t say England in the Sixties… nothing will. At the moment, I’m not sure that I’m ready to return to that era (fashion wise) but it probably is because I still remember that time. I think that I was in my early teens when this was very popular and everyone wanted something that was coming out of Carnaby Street.
