Black Friday: Apple Rumors

For several months now, I’ve been giving serious consideration to the purchase of a new MacBook.

I’ve been putting it off though, because, let’s face it, it’s a tough economy – and it’s not the best time to delusionally “treat yourself” unless you are darn sure you can afford it. Especially in my line of work.

However, there’s been rumors of fabulous deals at Apple on Black Friday:

According to purportedly leaked documents on the tech rumor site Boy Genius Report, Apple is gearing up to offer a series of post-Thanksgiving bargains on products from iPods to MacBooks.

The deal, allegedly good only on November 27, lists “up to” discounts of 30 percent on iPods (excluding the Shuffle and iPhone), 25 percent on Mac laptops and desktops, and 15-percent on accessories, software, and other hardware.

The Boy Genius Report Web site says: “One of our connects just hit us up with some intriguing Apple information. According to them, what you see detailed above is a shot of Apple’s yearly Black Friday deals. It’s reported to be something Apple will email out shortly.”

Of course, with the vague use of “up to” and no specific products listed, we can’t be sure if these will be good deals or not. But if you’re interested in being the first in line to check them out, the leaked doc also says that select Apple stores will be opening at 6 a.m. on November 27.

If this is true, it would be non-economical to NOT buy one!!!

However, I probably won’t be able to gauge the true validity of this rumor until I return to the States and do some serious research…so I ask, have any of YOU heard anything? Does anyone work at Apple and have an inside line to info? If so, save me a place in line…I’ll be there at daybreak Friday!

Using Coupons: Do’s and Don’ts

As you probably have noticed, I post info about coupons and sales pretty often – but a lot of you may be hesitant to follow through if you are new to coupons, or even shopping online, and are afraid of falling into a trap.

Something cool: Even I learned from this!

First of all, here’s some things you SHOULD DO when shopping online and using coupon codes:

Compare prices between stores and brands before making purchases. Just because a store is having a sale, or a discount, doesn’t mean they are the best value.

No matter how great the price is to start out with, always seek out a coupon code or discount offer before purchasing anything online. No matter how great a deal you are getting, there’s always the possibility of a better one!

Research prices and promotional codes at sites like PromotionalCodes.com and
CouponWinner.com.

Double coupons are not just for grocery stores, and stacking is possible. Several offers can sometimes be applied to the same purchase to save even more. For example, a 25% off coupon can be used along with a free shipping coupon to maximize savings on the same purchase.

Sometimes you will need to spend a minimum amount to get a discount, if the price is right, this is sometimes worthwhile: Especially if it adds to your overall savings.

Here’s what you SHOULD NOT DO:

If you are going shopping in an actual store – that’s fine – but first check out the online prices to see if you can get a better deal. And if they have coupons and/or free shipping, it may change your mind about venturing out.

Just like with our medications, going generic sometimes is a good thing. If you try a “no name” brand, you may get the same quality for way less money.

Don’t forget to read the fine print on coupons. Expiration dates, minimum order size and
certain exclusions may affect how you use the promotional codes.

Don’t pay for coupons. This is a sign that a website is untrustworthy. Promotional codes are provided
by retailers to shoppers for FREE.

I think a lot of us fall into the trap of buying mass amounts of similar items (say, in my case, LBDs), and not essential staples, like, good sweaters, or button-down work appropriate tops. And, then, suddenly, you receive an itinerary that reads “smart casual” and you can’t remotely figure out what that even means.

And so, I’m stocking up on the things I really need rather than adhering to a never-ending obsession, and I’m starting with the Vertigo Paris sweaters sale at ideeli. And, honestly, I feel like I may have commenced a shopping obsession.
