Fashion Week Spring 2010: Marc Jacobs

At the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the clothes were a mixed bag of textures. Lots of ruffles were combined with everything from structured military jackets to sheer, footless ballerina leggings. The models wore heavy powder and high buns, for a Geisha/opera/theatrical look.
Though you might not be able to wear the mish-mosh of fabrics and textures like the girls on the runway, you can definitely pick and choose pieces from the collection to wear. I definitely liked the blue plaid dress and the handbags were top-notch with woven styles accented with tassels and fringe.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Derek Lam

Derek Lam’s fashions are generally elegant and sophisticated. So it was great to see him break out the colors and the fun in his Spring 2010 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. There was no general color palette or underlying theme. It was like a carnival of colors and silhouettes — definitely eye-catching and certainly fitting for spring. Some of the fashions had a retro 70s flavor, but it was much more than that.
The show finished up with what some were calling “bodysuits” but they were more like a blouson tops attached to swimsuit bottoms.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Nicole Miller

While many designers get into the light and bright colors for spring, Nicole Miller did something a little different with Spring 2010 collection.
On Day 2 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Friday, Nicole Miller displayed several dresses that paired ocean-colored prints with black for a more edgy look. She also threw in some metallic dresses and an assortment of shorts. It was a “tougher” collection than I’d expect from Nicole Miller, especially for spring, though there were quite a few whites and beautiful blues in flowing fabrics mixed in.
Here are just a few of my favorite dresses from the show.

I adore the designs from Akiko Yasuda. What started out as a t-shirt company has emerged into a fabulous fashion label of contemporary clothes in feminine silhouettes. This jersey top from the Akiko collection is my latest fashion crush.
Featuring flutter sleeves and a ruffled scoop neckline, this top flatters the figure with its tie belt and tunic length. You can get this gorgeous top right now at Neiman Marcus for $160. The lilac purple color is an ideal choice for spring.
This top is made from a Spandex blend that allows it to retain its shape and provides a little stretch. …read more

Colorblocking, floral prints, geometric patterns — I adore all the options in skirts this spring. Earlier today, I was shopping at Net-a-porter, so I thought I’d share three print skirts that I love from the site.
If you are going to splurge on one of these designer skirts, just make sure you have enough tops and sweaters to go with it. When you spend this much money, the skirt should be a versatile piece in your wardrobe.

As the weather heats up, get ready for spring by preparing your skin, your body and your wardrobe. Here are some fabulous beauty and style tips to look your best this spring.
Wear Less Makeup
In the warmer months, you should use much less makeup than you do in the winter. Put away the dark lipsticks and liners. This spring, keep your makeup routine simple. A tinted moisturizer is a lighter alternative to heavy foundation. For daytime, wear neutral color eye shadows and a coat of brown mascara. Add just a touch of lip gloss and you are good to go.

If you have been invited to a formal spring event, you will want to wear a long gown but steer away from black. This petal pink chiffon dress from Kay Unger New York is a fabulous choice.
This dress features a one-shoulder design (one of the season’s hottest trends) and an empire waist. The way the skirt drapes is absolutely beautiful.
You can get this silk chiffon gown right now at Neiman Marcus for $470. I would pair it with silver strappy sandals to finish off the springtime look. This dress would also make a great bridesmaid gown for a spring wedding.

I adore the ruffles that are popular in spring fashion. From romantic white blouses to ruffled shoes, everything is so feminine.
This ruffle-front dress from the Red Valentino collection features a fabulous purple color and button-front design. Though the silhouette is simple, the result is very dramatic. The draped ruffled detailing and Peter Pan collar give this dress a lot of oomph!
If you are shopping for a spring dress that can really garner some attention, this ruffled frock is a hot choice. Priced at $595 right now at Neiman Marcus, this dress would make a beautiful addition to any woman’s wardrobe.

I’ve just been reading that, thanks to the Spring 2009 Fashion Week in New York, we are going to see a lot of transparent fashion in the coming seasons. Yes, I expect that summer of 2009 just might hold on to this look as well. But with this transparency, is going to come the need for camisoles. This particular White Silk Camisole is coming in at twenty dollars, but be prepared to stock up now before the rush is on. I have a feeling that the prices are going to skyrocket. That’s why I’m telling you now to start looking right …read more
