The Rebirth of the Birkenstock

It ain’t Spring without sandals, and you don’t have a complete wardrobe of spring shoes until you have Birkenstocks. (Or, as my mom calls them, “birkies”.)
I have to say though, I’ve always found birkies to be more of a necessarily evil than a fashion choice. They always resembled footwear I’d see in a Bible movie more than something I’d put on my own well-pedicured toes.
However, I may have to eat my words (or my shoe-snobbery, I suppose)…because the Birkenstock has been reinvented! This Spring’s offerings are surprisingly stylish, as well as eco-friendly, comfortable and affordable sandals, beginning at just $50.
My favorite style? The purple patent Gizeh – It retails for just under $80 – not bad for a shoe this comfy, and fits right in with this season’s hottest color trends (metallics and purple!). Well, done!
