It’s nice to see Scarlett Johansson break out of the predictably beautiful, (but more than a little boring) mold she usually winds up in. This week she was unveiled as the new face of Mango – here she is posing for their 2009 autumn/winter campaign looking all sexy and disheveled with her tossled bob. From here, it doesn’t look like the clothes are getting much attention here, with blondie hogging the spotlight…but can a black lace bra really compete when the person wearing it looks so sultry?

Maybe it is the flat sandals in combination with this dress that is making me loathe how Claudia Schiffer looks so much here. Jumping aboard the Dolce & Gabbana Cocktail party sporting a dress fit for a country western hoedown just makes me shake my head with disappointment.

I didn’t think it could get any worse than the last time a photo of over-eyeshadowed Carine Roitfeld passed across my desk. I really thought that was the point where Carine’s taste for smoky eyelids and hair hanging in her face would be it – the most over the top and strange it could be. Sadly, I was wrong. I have nightmares about shoulder pads making a comeback.
It’s not completely clear to me why my fashion fears are centered so fully on shoulder pads, but the thought of women climbing the corporate ladder one shoulder pad and tapered pant leg at a time…terrifies me. And yet somehow the worst possible incarnation of shoulder pads made an appearance during the Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2009 Collection Fashion Show.
