Stacy London is everywhere – do we like it?

I don’t know about you, but hardly anyone I know watches What Not to Wear anymore. Why is this? Do we assume that after the mass influx of fashion into our daily lives we now know better and no longer need Stacy and Clinton’s help? No.

I think the real reason is because we got insanely bored with their styling tips. At the end of each What Not to Wear we end up with women who now dress like a mannequin. They don’t really teach people about honing their personal style or finding pieces that speak to them. It’s more about fit and function. While these things are crucial elements for dressing well, so is personal style. Without it, it’s easy to get lost in a department store full of boring basics or spend too much in high end store trying to find the garment that will add to your wardrobe. Even still, it seems Stacy London is everywhere. She’s giving (very basic) style tips in People StyleWatch, telling us how to wash our clothes on Woolite commercials and how to wash our hair in Pantene advertisements. The thing is, is Stacy that recognizable? And even if she is, is her opinion still worth an ad campaign? If I don’t like Stacy on her own show, what are the chances I’ll like her in all of these ads?
What do you think of Stacy London?

I do like Stacy London. I think she gets a bit of a bad rap for her persona on WNTW. There always has to be a bit of a good-cop bad-cop rapport with these kinds of shows and they’re both a bit different (Stacy & Clinton) when the cameras are off, Stacy especially so.
Major brands like P&G spend a lot of money on research when choosing a spokesperson, not just in marketing demos and what not but in choosing the right candidate in terms of liabilities and lawsuits. Big name brands spent a lot of money to learn that yes, Stacy is indeed well known enough, and “safe” enough to at least boost their profits.
if you get beyond the WNTW persona you’ll see how utterly devoted she is to building self-esteem and self confidence in the young tweens and college kids that question her relentlessly on twitter (@StacyLondonSays) and not everyone gets to see her at those seminars where she preaches that “you as you are is good enough” to the masses continuously…to the point of having the cameras zoom on her huge scars left from when she suffered through her tweens with Psoriasis that covered most of her upper body and left her with seriously large hole like indents in her upper inside arms.
Seriously.
They’re like the size of quarters…and deep.
It brings a whole new perspective when you know this and watch WNTW when there’s a makeover standing in the mirror complaining about her knees and you see Stacy roll her eyes and say flatly say “Get OVER it…” followed by, just as flatly, “You have beautiful legs, so come on…”.
Especially too, if you follow Clinton’s tweets. Even if someone inadvertently says something that could be misconstrued as some kind of personal assault, well, he’s ALL OVER THEM LIKE WHITE ON RICE! lol!
It’s hard to exercise subtle humor in 148 characters or less.
Funny though, how their roles change a bit when not in front of the camera.
But yes, the show does get boring after a while. The network has to cater to the masses so the hosts stick to the basics of empire waists and how to elongate your legs so everyone kind of winds up the same. That’s not the hosts fault.
Stacy’s also involved in some worthwhile charities too.
Oh and…if you want to see exactly what they, and others on tv I’m sure, have to deal with in terms of being “twittered”
- go to http://www.search.twitter.com –
and type in @StacyLondonSays in the box.
It’s much easier to follow a twitter conversation that way..that is…if you didn’t already know all this before lol!
Wearable Me – Jeez, is this Stacy’s mother commenting? You certainly have strong feelings on the subject. For the record I have to delete any posts with profanity. Thanks for playing! xx
What Not To Wear has made me pay attention to my sloppy ness just because I am now retired but still go out in the public everyday. The one thing I have nerver ever seen is Stacy and Clint having women over fifty-five and older to redress. Why not? Age should not matter or are you to young for us oldies?
Stacy aned Clint are great, but if they think they have had challenges the have yet to see me. My clothes are mostly western since i had worked at Western Wearhouse for four years. A few street clothes as I call them but I can’t seem to get them to fit correctly. Will Stacy please email me?
