Get A Piece Like Mickey Rourke
May 3, 2009 by Tracey Duncan

You might have noticed that Mickey Rourke was wearing a totally highlarious necklace with a photo portrait of his dog Loki in it at the Academy Awards, but probably not. I mean, unless you’re a really big fan, there are plenty of other things you would have noticed about him before that. Like, he never took his sunglasses off for a second once. What’s going on with that? I mean, I am a person who loves sunglasses, and I try to wear them all the time, but in a darkened theatre. But, seriously, his necklace was dope:

Dramatic Collar Necklaces at the Oscars

It seemed like the Oscars this year were a little tamer and a little bit more restrained than in previous years – or at least it felt like it when it came to the red carpet jewelry!
There were still actresses who decided to go for the glamor and wore some spectacular pieces of jewelry. I noticed several lovely “collar” length or bib style necklaces in particular.
Check out Diane Lane’s elegant art deco-inspired necklace by Neil Lane:
Amy Adams decided to buck red carpet trends and wore a bold, modern bib necklace featuring faceted colored stones:

That is a Christian Louboutin “Petal” satin evening bag. Yes, it costs almost $1500, but it’s a Louboutin – you’re paying for quality here ladies!
My mid-range pick rings in at a more moderate $225:
That’s the “Caroline” clutch purse by designer Lauren Merkin, also in red satin.
My next pick isn’t made out of red satin, but …read more

Steal Angie’s hair (if not her man)

Once upon a time, I sort of wanted to BE Angelina. She’s gorgeous, she has a perfect body, she’s sleeping with Brad Pitt. But then the whole mob of children happened, and I realized she was kind of INSANE.
So, let me amend that. I do not want to be Angelina. But I wouldn’t mind having her hair…
And maybe now I can! David Babaii was kind enough to share some tidbits of how he created Angelina’s look last night at the Academy Awards.
To create her romantic layers of curls, he said he first sprayed her whole head with David Babaii for …read more
Pretty red accents in a sea of white at the Oscars

White, cream and ivory were all hot colors on the runway last night at the Oscars – but what if you like a dash of color…
Actress Taraji P. Henson (”Queenie” in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) added a little red carpet to her style when she carried an elegant pleated red satin clutch purse.
There were a lot of classic metallic and crystal clutches on the red carpet last night, but I love the little added spice that the red added to her outfit. It’s small enough that the color doesn’t overwhelm her outfit – but just sets it off …read more
Heidi Klum and all those bracelets…

Heidi Klum went for all-out glamour at last night’s Academy Awards… red satin ball gown, sparkling rings, earrings and bracelets.
But was it too much?
Let’s face it – we’re talking about Heidi Klum, one of the most attractive women on the face of the planet! If her jewelry is overwhelming, what’s it going to look like on us mere mortals?
Don’t get me wrong, I love something sparkly as much as the next girl, but perhaps just one or two of those bracelets might have worked better? How about just one big cocktail ring instead of a handful?
Still love the bling? I’ll …read more
Are You Coveting Marion Cotillard’s Twist?
February 22, 2009 by Aly Walansky

The truth is, I hardly EVER go to the movies. So, when I am watching these award shows, it’s more about what the ladies are wearing (or how their hair looks, in this case) than who wins. Of course, I have my favorites…but it’s usually related to the former.
Celebrity hair stylist Robert Vetica (author of Good to Great Hair), created this sort of new-take on the old-fave French Twist.
Vetica says he did this by first blow-drying Marion’s hair with a round brush using Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to prevent frizz, and created a low side part. He then teased the …read more
