Sunglasses From 100% Renewable Material

As the world moves towards green living, it’s exciting to see more industries develop environmentally-conscious technology for their products. Dragon has teamed up with one of the world’s greatest surfers, Rob Machado, to create the first ever sunglasses made from 100% renewable materials. All of the materials used for the sunglasses, including ink and packaging materials, is created from materials that are replenished at the same rate that they are consumed.

The new environmental line is called Environmentally Conscious Optics, or ECO. Machado is an active environmentalist and has used his success in surfing to spread awareness of environmental issues and take steps towards change. I hope to see more developments from the ECO line.

Chloe Tamaris Aviator Sunglasses

These Chloe Tamaris Sunglasses at La Garconne are my favorite aviator sunglasses that I have found this summer. I absolutely must have them! The colorful plastic aviators have been one of the hottest styles of the summer, but if you want a more sophisticated style that will be popular for years to come, the traditional metal aviators are possibly more your style.

These sunglasses have a traditional aviator style and shape with thin gold frames and brown gradient lenses. The special Chloe touch is the addition of real leather and metal rivets at the temples and on the bridge. The leather is such a small detail, but adds such a unique and modern design element to the aviator frame.

Vintage Carrera Sunglasses

After a trip to Italy in the spring I have been obsessed with Carrera sunglasses. I wrote when I got back about how Carrera sunglasses are the absolute hot item in Italy. Every stylish young person in Italy was wearing a pair!

I just discovered a pair of vintage Carrera sunglasses! I am loving all of the vintage styles that are being re-released this summer, so I was really excited to find that Retrosun has a pair of vintage Carrera aviator sunglasses available.

These sunglasses have a vintage aviator style with gold frames and gray lenses. The gold bridge detail is very distinctive. It’s great to see the contrast between the candy-colored plastic aviators that are popular now and the polished gold vintage frames.

Carrera began as a high-performance sunglasses manufacturer that was known for designing the best in aviation eyewear. These sunglasses are a collectors flight tech edition with a Boeing logo along the temple.

Megan Fox’s Casual Look

As super sexy as she is, I usually am not impressed with Megan Fox’s sense of style. Her clothes are usually a little too much trashy and not enough classy, but she is fairly new to the Hollywood scene so I will give her some time to catch up. (We all remember how Nicole Richie dressed back when she was on the Simple Life…quite a change from the fashion icon she is now).

Obviously sales are pretty great. The only consistent difficulty that I have with shopping sales is that any great style that I find is never available in my size. In checking out the sales online recently, I just had a great realization: accessories on sale are the best because they usually come in just one size! Hats and sunglasses are usually fairly generic in size (hats come in maybe two sizes at the most), so it’s a better chance that you will find what you are looking for.

Banana Republic is currently having a great accessories sale, with up to 50% off on hats and sunglasses. I always love stocking up on the basics at Banana Republic sales, so here are my picks for classics that are affordable and on sale and going to be quite fashionable this summer:

Here is a beautiful version of my favorite hat style of the summer: the straw cloche. The straw is a great seasonal update to the wool cloche that was so popular this winter. The belt detail on the brim is a unique and casual element. The Straw Cloche is $29.99 (reg. $49).

5 Classic Sunglasses Styles

Did you know that sunglasses were introduced to America in 1929 by Sam Foster? Sunglasses only really became popular as a fashion accessory in the 1940s and as many of us know, some of the older sunglasses styles still remain trendy and fashionable. Today, we’ll take a look at the beginning of what is now known as one of the best ways to spice up an outfit while simultaneously keeping our eyes protected from the sun’s rays.

Aviator sunglasses were introduced to U.S military aviators by Ray-Ban in 1936 and have managed to stay popular ever since. Now, in Hollywood, whether they be men, women, young or older you can count on seeing many a-pair of aviators. Aviators are defined by their teardrop shape and metal frames. Occasionally, they’ll have a plastic frame, but it’s a little less common. Ray-Ban is one of the biggest, if not the biggest name for aviator shades and possibly sunglasses in general.

Though these next sunglasses aren’t a style so much as they are a brand, I thought they deserved their own category. Time for some more Ray Ban! These next sunglasses are possibly the most popular sunglasses right now and are said to be the best selling shades of all time. Pick any celebrity and chances are, they’ve probably been seen in a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. These were introduced in 1952, but might be most memorably showcased on Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. From Vanessa Hudgens to Jude Law, these sunglasses are seen everywhere. It’s not hard to see why considering this style is cute and goes with almost anything.

Up next are Teashades. Also known as “John Lennon Glasses” and seen on rocker Ozzy Osbourne, these shades are not as popular right now as some of the other classic sunglasses styles. Featuring round metal frames and usually dark lenses they were popular in the 1960s, not typically used for any other reason than to be aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately for those of you looking for a pair, they’re pretty hard to find in stores or boutiques, but replicas can be found in costume shops.

Oversized sunglasses were a defining style in the 1960s. Former first lady, Jackie Onassis Kennedy was quite a fashion icon, and one of her signatures was her big, round sunglasses. She constantly wore them and eventually the public started referring to certain shades as “Jackie-Os.” Elton John also wore oversized shades in the mid 1970s as a part of his Captain Fantastic act. It’s a style that’s still extremely popular and continues to shine and be worn by many.

Though flip-ups come a little later than the previously mentioned styles, they are still mentionable. In the 1980s they were popularized by Dwayne Wayne, character from A Different World. Flip ups can be described as a design that allows the wearer to switch between regular glasses to sunglasses with a simple flip. The alternative to these is clip-ons, and the design’s popularity eventually died, and are not easy to find (thank goodness!).
