And now for something unrelated to scent, but still related to the Beauty and Style Channel……..

I picked up Loreal’s new mascara with the “tubes.” Loreal’s Double Extend Beauty Tubes Technology. 

I wanted to see for myself how well it worked. I’m pretty impressed. I don’t know about an 80% boost in length, but my lashes do look much longer. I’m sure that with practice I will get the hang of the two brush system and be able to use the product more effectively. 

It’s a two-step process that you perform on one eye completely, before applying to the other eye.  It washes off very easily – no sticky leftover gunk. I appreciated that.  Here’s my eye before the mascara, with a very neutral shadow and liner,

What do you think?  I only used it on the top lashes.  Are you wondering why I look so surprised?  My daughter took these for me and I kept blinking with the flash. Oops.  I’m more comfortable behind the camera, than in front of it. 

 The mascara is comfortable, which is important to me.  It’s a little pricer than other drugstore mascaras, but it’s a drugstore mascara, so it’s not expensive.  The process is simple.  The results ae good. I would definitely buy it again.

Marc Jacobs Gift Set and Special Offer From Sephora.com

Well, to start, the best selling perfume of all time is….Chanel #5!  I learned this from BellaSugar.  Surely having Marilyn Monroe coo about your perfume doesn’t hurt.

Another one of the perennial bestsellers on Sephora is Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue.   If it had been released ten years ago, I’d put my money on this one, but alas, it’s only been out since 2001!  It’s one of the only fruity-florals I can stand, and it definitely started a trend.  Same with Pink Sugar, which only came out a few years ago.

So, my unofficial answer is: Ralph Lauren Romance.  It came out 10 years ago, and it’s definitely one of the best selling perfumes since then.   Anybody have a problem with that?   What’s the perfume that you re-buy over and over, making it a best seller for you?

Prada’s latest Boutique perfumes

1) a hip location, such as a nightclub, museum, or other beautiful building

2) lots of hot models

3) lots of freebies and chances for the fashion press to sample the perfume.

Unfortunately, Prada’s latest perfume launch for Infusion d’Homme, they missed out on that last bit.  The concept and fashion and hot models were there in spades, but the product was very difficult to actually sample, and therefore, left many fashion editors perplexed.

Pathetic!

Stupid Crazy 48% off sale at Isle of Eden

Although Keira is only 23, the scent name does mean “young lady” after all…so bring in a new young lady! I am interested to see what the ads will look like. You can rest assured that any movie premieres she goes to from here on out will leave her dressed head to toe in Chanel. Not such a bad deal if you ask me.

According to TheImproper, though, it’s all unofficial. So who knows, some photos of her doing something naughty could land on the internet and ruin the deal.

Emma Watson to be new face of Coco Mademoiselle

Today’s perfume of the day is perhaps ill-timed – I knew going into it that the notes weren’t what I was wanting for hot weather, but in the name of science…I wore escentric 01 today, and really quite liked it.  It’s a well-composed, interesting scent.  The pepper made its appearance quickly but settled in between the wood notes after a few minutes.  I only get the faintest idea of the lime, and it’s all smoke and red cedar for the duration.  I think this would really suit my tastes much better come November-ish.  I’m going to have my significant other test it on him, and see what we think.   $135 for 3.5 oz at Luckyscent.

Second only to its sister scent Molecule 01, Escentric 01 boasts the highest concentration of the aroma chemical Iso E Super ever to be used in perfumery (65%). The woody nature of this note is joined with top notes of pink pepper, lime peel and orris incense to create a moving fragrance intent on taking you right from the opening to the base in one sweeping, dramatic move. The tart lime and zesty pink pepper are a sparkling shot into the dark heart of Escentric 01’s moody, soft wood nature, while orris incense adds a dash of smoky incense and turns up the heat. Emotional and dazzling.

As a designer, Bill Blass had quite an interesting life. His company, however, never did much for me. It is now being “relaunched” like many other brands with lots of name recognition, and a new, big-name designer – Peter Som- at the helm.  Everything old is new again, darlings! In that spirit, there is a “new” Bill Blass fragrance gracing the editorial pages and advertising of fashion magazines – probably the first time in Lucky magazine’s history that the brand has been mentioned!

The new signature scent is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and is described:
exemplifies the ultimate sophistication and allure of the Bill Blass woman. Opening with the crisp aroma of neroli petals, galbanum and green mandarin, its purely floral top notes and grassy interludes bring to mind the enchantment of a floral garden. The heart of the fragrance, a stimulating fusion of white hyacinth, lily of the valley, tuberose and jasmine, evokes the majesty and opulence of nature in spring bloom.

I actually quite like galbanum and for those of you who love classic florals and their modern interpretations (Marc Jacobs et al), it might be worth checking out.   Even the bottle is very retro-chic.

Perfume of the Day: Bill Blass (2007)

I’m just smitten with the mediterranean, and nothing evokes that region for me more than the scents of the lovely flora.  Several brands, like Acqua di Parma, Odori Colognes, and now, Ortigia.  I love, love, love the cool packaging (twin moorish leopards and palm trees) and the wide range of scents has something for everyone.  Now, if only I could BUY some closer than London, I’d be all set.

The line includes fragrances in: Orange Blossom, Sicilian Lime, Lavender, Pomegranate, Coral Shell, Fico d’India, Florio, Almond, Bergamot,  Sandalo, Ambra Nera, and Neroli Honey.
