1. The Gladiator:  This look features any kind of shoe reminiscent of ancient rome.  Shoes come in all heights, from heels to flat sandals.  It’s all in the straps.  This L.A.M.B. stiletto heel is made of metallic leather.

2. Primitive Prints: Animal prints, batik, and geo-ethnic designs define this style.  A good example is the pattern on this Diane von Furstenberg dress, made of silk.

What’s In Style for Spring 2008? Ask Nordstrom

I love the print detail on the skirt, as well.  The color is listed as “pink,” but it looks more like a rose from this photo.  It’s also available in aqua, coffee, purple, magenta, and black and white.

You can get this at Zaftique.  They have a VERY weird sizing system, so refer to their sizing chart here.  They also offer plus size active wear and intimates, and you can make your own wish list on the site.  Bargain hunters will want to look through their sale and clearance sections as well.

They ship worldwide, but if you’re outside the U.S. or Canada, you’ll need to place a minimum $200 order, your items will have to be in stock as they won’t ship partial orders internationally, and you’ll need to send your order via email or call their customer service number.  See their shipping page for details.

Plus Size Dress is Slimming & Elegant

Here’s a closer look at the bodice:

(Sorry, that’s the highest zoom I could get.)  It’s available at eternitystore.com, which specializes in modest dresses.  But if you’re not in the market for modest, don’t let the label turn you off to the dress — it’s just as pretty as any of the dresses you’d find at a prom-specific store, and it’s a lot cheaper than most of those prom stores — compare at an average of $300 or more for prom-specific sites and $160 for this dress. 

Additionally, if you are buying this for a prom or school formal, the rents might be more inclined to fork over the cash if you tell them it’s from a modesty site.  Work it, and use it to your advantage.

(I am using the term “the rents” in an effort to appear cooler than I actually am.  I have no idea if that phrase is even still *in* or not.)

Long Organza and Satin Dress in Brown, Purple, or Pale Yellow

Here’s a closer look at this fantastic print:

I find some designers mix prints together that should never be mixed together with sometimes hideous results.  Not so with this dress, as the combination of designs within the print compliment each other nicely, both in shape and color.

The golds and browns in this dress would look great on someone with autumn coloring (usually brown-eyed brunettes), but the blue could possibly play off of someone with blue eyes, as well.  This dress is also nice in that it is not so fancy that you would have to save it for the most formal occasions — you could wear it to a nice restaurant or to a daytime party.

This U.S.-based company ships worldwide, but they process their non-U.S. shipments through a third party and their choices for payment from non-U.S. countries are limited, so be sure to check out their shipment information page before making your order if you live outside the states.

Couture Candy is kind of an online store combined with a magazine in that they have a lot of perks on their site that most clothing stores don’t, including a style and travel blog, a celebrity style blog, a music section, and a personal stylist section where you can get style tips as well as personal style advice at no fee.  You can also sign up for their newsletter or start a wish list.  You really could spend a lot of time on this site–fun!
