Abercrombie & Fitch, a chain of clothing stores directed at young adults, has a problem with the name of the new fragrance – they insist that they already own that name. New York Daily News reports….

Within hours of Tuesday’s announcement, Abercrombie filed suit in federal court in Columbus, asking a judge to stop Knowles and accusing her of trademark infringement, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices because it already sells a men’s cologne called Fierce.

The $40 cologne comes in a bottle featuring the standard Abercrombie and Fitch branding: a ripped male torso. Store employees spritz stacks of clothing with it.

The company said it has sold $190 million worth of Fierce since 2002 and Knowles’ perfume plan “poses a likelihood of confusion” for consumers and could cost them sales.

I’m no expert on the law, but it sounds pretty straight forward. Why doesn’t she just change from “Fierce”  to “Sasha Fierce”?  There’s already too much similarity in the fragrance industry. I can’t tell you how many times I smell a sample and think, “This smells exactly like…..” 

Unique smell, unique name – that’s the way to go.

A Possible Snag With Beyonce’s Fragrance

It’s not that Halle was unpleasant, because it wasn’t. It’s that it smells so much like any other celebrity fragrance out there. It smelled just like Jessica Simpson’s Fancy, to me. I looked at it and here is a comparison of the notes:

Fragrance Notes – Halle, by Halle Berry
Top: Fig, Pear Blossom, Bergamot
Middle: Mimose, Hibiscus, Freesia
Base: Cashmere Musk, Sandalwood, Amber, Incense

Fragrance Notes – Fancy, by Jessica Simpson
Top: Pear, Apricot Nectar, Red Fruits
Middle: Gardenia, Jasmine, Toasted Almonds
Base: Sandalwood, Vanilla Creme, Amber

Both are a Fruity Oriental. Nice, but why can’t they come up with something new and exciting and different?  Berry is a gorgeous bi-racial, Academy Award-winning actor, who had a baby well into her 40s with a super-hot younger man.  She’s so intriguing to me, so very original and unique. I guess I was hoping for something original and unique in terms of her scent.

The Beat for Women, well I loved that stuff. I’ll write more on it later.

How Is Halle Berry Like Jessica Simpson?

Sean Combs’ first fragrance was a surprise hit for me when it launched. I hope that he replicates his success with this new perfume, Unforgivable Woman. My invite to the premiere must have gotten lost in the mail!

The House of Unforgivable was hopping last night (Wednesday, September 19th) as the stars turned out in droves to help celebrate Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Unforgivable Woman fragrance launch. Notable attendees included: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Beyonce Knowles, Ashton Kutcher, Aretha Franklin, Eartha Kitt, Carol Alt, Harvey Weinstein, Zac Posen, Richie Rich of Heatherette, Sky Nellor, Dr. Lisa Airan, Leven Rambin of “All My Children,” DJ Clue, Quentin Richardson, Andre Harrell, Genevieve Jones, Fabian and Martina Basabe, Bob Colacello, Irina Pantaeva, Adrienne Bailon, Carlos Mota, Allison Sarofim, Richie Akiva, Robert Verdi and more.

The sexy and provocative party took place at “The House of Unforgivable,” a private townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, tricked out with gorgeous models outfitted in Kiki de Montparnasse lingerie, lavish décor and entertainment to seduce all of your senses.
