Designer Charms for Charity

QVC and the CFDA (the Council of Fashion Designers of America) have teamed up to raise money for breast cancer research through the sale of “Designer Charms for Charity“.
They’ve enlisted the help of some jewelry design greats to design the charms and the proceeds go to the CFDA’s charity “Fashion Targets Breast Cancer”.
Prices ranges from $23 to $76 and the sterling silver charms can feature Swarovski crystals, semi-precious gems or enamel accents.
RLM Studio by Robert Lee Morris teamed up with Julianne Moore and Leslie Fremar to create the sterling silver caged bird charm:

Charming Charms by Tord Boontje

I’ve never been one of those girls that kept a charm bracelet, but I always wanted to be. I love the idea of collecting lovely little miniatures on my travels and whatnot. I love the idea of collecting charms even more when they’re  Dutch super high design, and represent an adorably charming, if you’ll forgive the pun, fairytale wonderland.
These charms by well-loved designer Tord Boontje are available in sterling or gold. They come 3-4 to a set, and there are 4 different sets. Unfortunately they come with a cotton cord in lieu of all the fabulous chains you see above, …read more

Add PopIts On Your Summer Flip-Flops

Summer is the best time to wear those comfortable flip-flops. The latter is the best footwear to keep our feet fresh and comfortable stylish at the beach or any casual days. What if we could accessorize our pair of flip-flops to make it prettier and playful? We sure can thanks to PopIts.
PopIts are basically charms for flip-flops, other shoes, hair accessories like clips, and even hats. It’s like bedazzing but without actually using a beddazling kit. Just attach the PopIts charms. Miley Cyrus has been seen around Los Angeles wearing flip-flops with PopIts charms on them.

Follow The Sun necklace from Scosha NYC

In honor of my 100th post on my new jewelry blog, Gleaming Things – I thought I really should choose a piece of jewelry for today’s drool-worthy choice
The piece of jewelry?  Scosha NYC’s necklace, “Follow The Sun“:

It’s been created from extra-soft twisted black fishing line, 14kt yellow gold, silver oxidized chain and accented with a tiny diamond.  It’s also really adjustable, from 18 to 28 inches long.
And how can I resist a necklace with a tiny bird on it?

creating my own bird jewelry

I shared some of my favorite picks with you all when I was trying to track down a particular bird necklace.  I still haven’t found the perfect one, but I did find a charm with two birds sitting on a branch on it.  It’s got a little empty nest between them – they look forlorn somehow.
I decided to take matters into my own hands and glued three little robin’s egg blue beads into the nest.  I attached a plain silver curb chain to the ends.  I’m quite pleased with how it turned out!

watches as necklaces

watches as necklaces

I’m one of those unlucky people who destroy watch batteries.  I can wear a perfectly good watch, that’s guaranteed to last for five years… and end up with a dead battery in one week!
Frustrating, to say the least!
Luckily, pendant watches seem to fare better and there are some lovely ones out on the market, like this gold plated watch necklace from Lenora Dame:

Of course, the fact that it’s on sale for 40% off doesn’t hurt at all
