Making Geeks Smell Good

Genki Wear, known for making replica jewelery for Buffy Fans and Labriynth Fans, is coming out with a trio of fragrances named after Star Trek references.

The Tiberius cologne is spiked with “notes of freshness and sensuality.” The cologne apparently has sweet citron zest, black

pepper, and cedar as its top notes and warm vanilla, white musk, and sandalwood as its base notes. The company promises that “Tiberius Cologne for men is difficult to define and impossible to refuse”.

Red Shirt cologne (whose tag line is “Because Tomorrow May Never Come”) is in honour of the frequently nameless crew of the Enterprise. The cologne has top notes of green mandarin, bergamot, and lavender, with base notes of leather and grey musk.

The third in the trio, a perfume for women called Ponn Farr, is supposed to “drive him wild”, and since it’s named for a Vulcan mating ritual. More details and images coming from the company soon.

Both the Tiberius and Red Shirts are 100ml (3.4 oz) quality colognes built from long lasting fragrances for men, and will retail for $30-40 depending on the department or retail store.

All the Star Trek fragrances will be available this April at department and retail stores, and at online retailers.

The conference halls that hold all the Trekkie conventions are either going to smell a lot better, or they’ll be completely overwhelming! I guess it’s all going to depend on how heavy handed the geeks get with their Tiberius or their Red Shirt.

I like to keep a bag of Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses in the cupboard – I call it “my stash,” and my kids know that they can grab a couple, but they better never finish them off. I have to have my daily chocolate. Sometimes I switch it up a little and get the dark chocolate, but really I’m a milk chocolate girl.

Today I got my Sephora catalogue in the mail and low and behold it contains a page full of Hershey beauty products, made by Demeter. Oh my. I have to have something, or possibly all of it……… So I pull out my laptop and look up Hershey’s and that’s when I found this a scent inspired by my beloved Kisses.

Daddy Yankee launches a cologne

Daddy Yankee (Ramon Ayala), Reggaeton star of the hit single “Gasolina” has launched a cologne, DY. The notes include: ozonic mist, apple, ginger, basil, sage, cedar, Brazilian red wood, suede and amber. It sounds suitably sexy to represent Daddy Yankee’s brand of Latino sexy. 50 and 100ml bottles will be available at Macy’s soon, at a very reasonable $39 and $49.

DY, which was developed by Givaudan Fragrances, is being marketed and distributed via an agreement with Falic Fashion Group (FFG), which in turn is owned by Duty Free Americas (DFA), which owns and operates more than 100 duty-free stores in airports and at borders.

A very fun opening. with a heart of rose and a lovely, dry sandalwood/tea background. Although it’s not mentioned in the notes, the top smells like an herbal/honey mixture that reminds me of honey straws from my childhood. It has a soapy quality that washes over the rose petals and makes it very Mediterranean indeed. I prefer this to most of the “green tea” type scents. A surprise oriental favorite. $160/100ml at Luckyscent.

The sunny and Mediterranean top notes hum with a fresh and fragrant vibration and welcome you with an open invitation to happiness. Sandalo et The floats on the air with its reserved middle note of jasmine and the clean, velvety notes of fresh Bulgarian roses, carefully picked at dawn when the petals are still damp with dew. What really takes this perfume to a new level of fabulous are base notes of fragrant, dried tea leaves that gently waft through a gentle sandalwood…sublime, calming and uplifting all at the same time.

Unlike most vanilla scents, this one isn’t a try-hard crowd pleaser. It opens with a smoky-citrus wall of scent, almost completely obscuring the soft, spicy vanilla center. When the smoke clears, frankincense keeps things buoyed far from gourmand territory. I really didn’t think I’d like this scent due to the topnotes, but I quickly warmed to it as it did to me. I’d love to smell this on a man. $88/50ml at Luckyscent.

Creamy vanilla and rich tonka get top billing here, but there’s another key player in this spellbinding scent: dark and mysterious frankincense, which firmly steers the vanilla away from the bakery and into an opulent hookah bar upholstered in deep brown velvet. Opening with a tingle of sharp lime and tangerine, this unfurls into a cinnamon-laced, smoky vanilla that makes us deliriously happy. A voluptuous and adult vanilla, a vanilla that has been around the block, a vanilla that has nothing to do with cupcakes. Enveloping, warm and slightly dangerous.

Perfume of the Day: Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens

A few days ago I wore Ambre Narguile, and really liked it. To try another amber, in the middle of summer, is a dangerous thing. Fortunately, this scent has a lovely amber heart, but completely different setting: a smokey, woody aldehyde opening. At times dirty/animalic, spicy, and resinous. The amber sparkles through, here and there – like glimpses of a jewel from behind a carved wooden screen. It started going a little ‘pencil shavings’ on me, but it was never gourmand and always had very good posture/balance. I don’t like it on my skin quite as much as Ambre Narguile, but it is a must-try for amber lovers. Maybe more suited for a gentleman of the dark, foreign, mysterious type!

For her: Givenchy Organza. It’s confident, feminine, and includes honeysuckle. Just look at the ram’s horn on the top, in copper!

For Him: Calvin Klein Obsession for him. The spicy notes add a hint of fire (Aries is a Fire Sign) to a masculine sensuality.
