My hair is naturally blond – hardly anyone believes me, but it’s true! It’s true!
But women dye their hair for all sorts of reason: Sex appeal, spicing up their look…and maybe looking a little bit younger.
This seems kind of obvious – your gray hair comes out, you cover them up! Insta-young again, everything is taken care of.
Well, not so much. As we start to see those gray hairs peek out, we may think the best course of action is to dye our hair back to our original natural shade. But that’s not necessarily true, and if we are obvious about …read more

During the recession, we can’t help but feel a little guilty having spa days.
The thing is, we don’t have to give up being gorgeous – we just have to start going about it smartly. I chatted with San Francisco-based Vim and Vigor salon’s master stylist and educator Garret Hamabata and he had some great tips for us on saving money – and our hotness!
Garret says our goal is to get a hair cut that will last a long time. The easiest way to do this is to create a style or cut that works WITH the natural texture of our …read more

If you feel apprehensive when your stylist suggests heavy outlined shapes or internal layering, you’re not alone.
From coast to coast, salon terminology differs greatly.
Thankfully, hair guru Jet Rhys, co-owner of Jet Rhys salon in San Diego, CA, helped us to break down down the art of beauty speak so you can get it right.
First up: new cutting techniques.
“Heavy outlined shapes offer a strong outer line or perimeter and can be achieved with scissors or a razor,” says Jet. These clean, polished cuts have a visibly blunt edge that looks freshly snipped—think classic bob.” (A great example is Ginnifer Goodwin …read more

I love that each design in the Cassius Eyewear sunglasses line is named for a famous architect with styles like Corbu, Gehry, and Neimeyer. Jason Ng started this retro-inspired New Zealand line in 2008 with inspiration from simplistic styles of the ’60s and ’70s. The sunglasses have been spotted on celebrities like Kanye West and Rihanna, but Ng intends to keep his designs exclusive by only producing 300 individually handcrafted frames of each style. The sunglasses have a unisex look with bold plastic frames in red, black, and white.
Cassius Eyewear sunglasses are available online at Moxsie and Splendicity readers get …read more

Nothing says the demise of youth and vitality like those first few strands of gray hair.
And yet, it happens to all of us – some even younger than others – and when wallet-watching causes us to spend less time at the salon, we are increasingly trying to deal with the situation at home.
Too many times, we try to put that champagne blond on our hair, peek at mirror, and discover gray is showing through. Gah!!!!
Any colorist will tell you that gray hair can be stronger than hair processing. It is a ferocious foe!
I recently looked into No Gray though. (Not …read more
