Diptyque, of Paris, France, winner of the 2009 Fragrance Foundation’s Grand Prix du Parfum Awards, has a series of four citrus-scented fragrances available.

The company likes to build a story around their Colognes. They used the art of Desmond Knox Leet, one of the three founders of diptyque as inspiration for the newest scent, L’Eau de Toracco. The painting depicts travelers seated atop camels, passing citrus trees while on a journey. We are to imagine that their bags are filled with spices, traveling to the Mediterranean by way of far off lands.

Fragrance notes: Blood Orange, Grapefruit, Florida Orange, Cinnamon, Bulgarian Rose, Safraline (Saffron), Musk, Somali Frankincense.

Other scents in the citrus series include:

L’Eau des Hesperides
Fragrance notes: Bitter Orange, Mandarin, Lemon, Mint

L’Eau de Neroli
Fragrance notes: Verbena, Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Beeswax

L’Eau de L’Eau
Fragrance notes: Green Mandarin, Grapefruit, Geranium, Cinnamon, Benzoin Balm, and Tonka Bean

They all have a fresh citrus bite that later lifts a bit to reveal a deeper spice or woodiness. The citrus oil used in the fragrances was collected with a cold-press process. It smells natural, because it’s the real thing. No chemicals, heat, or additives are added. My favorite scent in the series is the L’Eau de L’Eau. I like the spiciness that sets it apart from the other three in the series.

This reminds me so much of a cherished Christmas gift I got when I was about 12 – a grapefruit shower gel from Crabtree & Evelyn. It’s a very sweet citrus, with minty, herbal notes that give it more interest and dimension. The lasting power is impressive and it takes a long time to dry down to the woody basenotes (which blend very nicely with the citrus topnotes). Another item it reminds me of is the (discontinued?) Origins Fret Not. Might just be full bottle worthy at some point. Very bright and cheery if you can get past the sweetness [...]
Post from: Splendicity.
This is just spooky and goth enough to make the cut for Halloween (I mean, it’s not even orange) but I think it would lend a nice air to your home for any Halloween parties this weekend. Like all Diptyque products, it’s not cheap: $72 at Bergdorf Goodman’s (it’s only 3 1/2″ tall!!!) but supposedly, as good candles do, it burns for 50-60 hours.
Some additional info:
The candle’s packaging is inspired by the vintage 1960’s fabric designs of Diptyque founders Christiane Gautrot and Desmond Knox Leet.
Happy Halloween, everyone!!!
