I was browsing through Neiman Marcus this morning, particularly in their Resort Collection section, and came across four black and white dresses that would made amazing gifts for that special fashionista or yourself!

Sophisticated Black & White Dresses

Given the $2,000 price tag, this dress is basically fantasyland for me, but what a fantasy it is. I can imagine a million ways of styling this dress, each more bizarre and delicate than the next. For a costume, I would paint my whole body white (the kind of paint that cracks) and wear white contacts and sweet little white mary janes. Silk Ruched Rivet Dress by Geren Ford

Forget about how this dress is styled. You’re going to wear it with Doc Martens and a plaid flannel and you’re going to like it. Sound unlikely? Get back to me in a few months. I’m giving in early. I loved the 90’s the first time, and I bet I’ll like them again. Except all those grunge bands. I want it all to be ripped fishnets and classic rock, but no matter. I can’t have my way all the time. I frequent the website etsy.com because I like to support the efforts of crafters and work-at-home-mothers. If I’m going to spend money on clothing, it might as well be original and beautifully made. My clothing, however, must be easy to throw on and easy to pair with other things from my closet. I just don’t have time for fussing (trust me, I found out the hard way—screaming baby, hungry preschooler, half-dressed mommy? Not a great situation!) I’ve discovered three items that just might satisfy those needs.

With its easy waist and brown herringbone linen, this dress sportif by seller modaspia is casually sophisticated. I see myself pairing it with simple sandals and loosely tying the draw-string waist to drop off my son at play group in the morning. The v-neck is flattering, the pockets are handy for carrying Kleenexes and little cars, and the length isn’t too short. Best of all, the dressmaker is willing to do custom sizes. To really add pizzazz, whether for daily use or for date night, I’d add this gorgeous headband. I love the idea of having a jazzy headband instead of a necklace and seller quirkybeauty has plenty of them to go around. Go with heels instead of sandals and you’ve got instant night out material.

Something that has been hot for a while now in the fashion world is the tunic and Etsy seller larimeloom’s version is breathtaking. With soft lines, easy flow, and a moveable tie, it’s versatile and ideal for camouflaging tummies or other not-so-perfect areas. Lovely with jeans, it’s another throw on piece that dazzles. Even the olive colour is reminiscent of frolics in the meadow in summer; it makes me want to take the kids outside to study the shapes in the clouds.
