But…here’s a great reason to.

Oscar Blandi, creators of my favorite dry shampoo, are today having a private sale on RueLaLa! If you are going to try it – and you should – doing so at a good price is extra-rewarding.

Now, why would you want dry shampoo? Well, obvious reasons, like:

1 – Stretch your blowout. I have super-curly hair, and blowing it out straight is sometimes an arduous ordeal. Wouldn’t I obviously want it to last another day or so?

2 – This also comes in handy when you make last-minute plans after work and need to freshen up before heading out. Or if you hit the gym and need to have perked up hair before going to the office.

So, give this a try, I swear by it. Also, remember, washing your hair too often is plain unhealthy for it – this way, you can let it breathe (and rest your arms).

Note: Dry shampoo can come in a powder, or a spray – the option you choose is a very personal one – so give both a shot, and see what works better for you.

Sxc.hu

Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleanser to Go ($10, sephora.com)

Obviously, I”m coming with a hat and sunglasses, but my hair will still be exposed. I’ve tried many dry shampoos, and this is my favorite! It’s sort of a pick-me-up and a great way to go straight from beach to poolside cocktails.

Ted Gibson Godnight Hair Repair Serum ($99, Beauty.com)

I can’t tell you how amazing this product is. At some point after my day in the sun, my hair will need some serious recoup – and this serum instantly absorbs, to repair and condition my hair. I love to wear it overnight for a super intense treatment.

Phillip B. Maui Wowie Beach Mist ($22, PhillipB.com)

Sometimes you actually crave that tousled beachy hair look – and just in case (or actually just in case my travel companion does) – It’s a blend of salt water, Aloe Vera extract and oils of Orchid and Tahitian Gardenia. This works best if you spray on damp or dry hair from roots to tips and comb through.

Living Proof No Frizz Styling Spray ($24, Sephora.com)

This stuff is a godsend for me – I spray a little on my roots before a blowout and my hair – as promised – has no frizz! Being I will be in the frizz capital of the world, this is an especially awesome thing.

Moroccanoil Gold Glimmer Shine ($21, Amazon.com)

One of these days, I’m going to do a post just on ALL the fabulous Moroccanoil products – cause they all pretty much are the most amazing products ever. This particular one will be a godsend in the Mexican environ -it adds a fabulous layer of shine, infused with Argan oil and UV filters – which will also protect against the elements! If only my skin could be so lucky.

We had plenty of body cleansing type stuff, and shampoo, but no conditioner. This resulted in me having the choice of washing my hair unconditioned, or not washing it for 3 days – while in beach-and-heat conditions.

Sxc.hu

I chose to not wash…and by the end of the weekend, was not all that attractive. However, I would have been if I knew this was going to happen and came with all my blowout-stretching materials at-ready.

The truth is, hair is healthiest if you do not wash it daily – it helps to distribute natural oils and is better for the scalp. But when you are on vacay, you sort of always want to look your freshest, too!

Some tips for what you should do:

Dry Shampoo!

Heidi couldn’t live without it, and neither can I. Find the brand you love and take it with you – or go even more affordable, and just use baby powder – it works great, and buys you at least a day.

No ‘Poo

Many people swear by the no ‘poo method of hair washing,..this is basically creating a rinse out of diluted baking soda andapple cider vinegar, it will last longer than shampoo!

Easy Does It

Hair is a creature of habit. Start to slowly increase the time between washes – eventually your every other day hair will be able to last 3 days! Of course, this works in reverse too – I used to be able to last 5 days, now I am lucky if I get 3!

Hide It
If all else fails, create a chic braid or pony – This way, you look sporty and casual hot – but actually are just hiding your limp locks. But don’t try to wear it down after you’ve gone the pony route – styling and messing around with your hair redistributes the oils, and just makes it greasier than it was in the first place!

I disagree.

Were I in that situation – I, of course, would not be with Spencer – but I would have reacted the same exact way.

I lasted the first 20 or so years of my life without knowing dry shampoo existed, and since then, it has changed my life. In a rush and don’t have time to wash your hair? Just spritz and go! Granted, some are better than others, and if you use it wrong you can make your hair look worse – but owning it – especially in COSTA RICA, which is where Heidi and Spencer are currently stuck in reality TV hell – is pretty darn important. I do not blame the ensuing freak out one lousy bit.

That said, she did seem to be using an awful lot of it.

You could say I lucked out in the hair department, if by “lucked out” you love hair that is dry at the ends, oily at the scalp, unwilling and unable to sustain a wave, and far too feral to be plain, straight and easy to manage. Basically, a schizophrenic challenge.

When I hear about friends who can go three days without a shampoo, I can’t help but feel bad for my poor limp locks, which have never gone two days without being assaulted by suds.

Image: Ojon®

Until now.

I’ve only recently begun learning about some of the dry shampoo products on the market and, honestly, I haven’t been impressed. The thought of dumping a white powder-like substance onto my dark hair 10 minutes before I have to leave for work sounds like a disaster. Curious though, I picked up a sample bottle of Ojon® Rub-Out Dry Cleanser at Sephora and figured I would give it a try.

The dry shampoo is meant to be used between washings, when you’re in rush or have overused a styling product and need to undo the damage. You simply shake the can, spray it onto your hair and rub it into your scalp. Its ingredients, which include Amazonian white clay, rice, silk powder and potato starches, are supposed to sap the grease and oils from your scalp and create texture and volume.

Ojon® made me very, very happy. It revitalized my lifeless hair and gave my waves a bit of a lift – something it’s reluctant to do even on a shampoo day. A lot of dry shampoo reviewers focus on the repulsive scent some of these products emit, but Ojon® smelled like a mix of baby powder and flowers. Saccharine, maybe, but, after all, it is still a spray can product.

There is hope yet.

I’m a big fan of hair powder – but we know all are not created equal. Some can lead to buildup, or worse, an unsightly dandruff-like effect.
I, am, however super-impressed with All-Nighter. First of all, it’s all-natural, talc-free, aluminum-free, silica-free, paraben-free color matched hair powder – that’s fabulous. Not only does it match your hair (look at all the shades it comes in!), but it won’t in any way harm it.

I tried it at first as a traditional dry shampoo to freshen up my ‘do, and it did its job quite well. It also though seems to help improve on texture and volume, meaning it may even look better than when your blowout was freshly done. How crazy awesome is that?

It’s exclusive to Sephora – but go there. You won’t be sorry.
