Clean, Classic & Eco-Friendly Jewelry

Shakira sported a pair of very shiny snake earrings during her trip down the red carpet for the American Music Awards last night:

There are quite a few designers using snakes as inspiration for their jewelry these days, but Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen from Elizabeth & James have created some elegant and realistic pieces:

These drop earrings are made from a combination of rose gold and sterling silver, accented with diamond eyes.

If those are a little too realistic, Kara by Kara Ross has a more stylized option:

How about a necklace that can be turned into multiple looks – or even worn as a belt or bracelet?

Then you’re definitely going to want to check out Twisted Silver’s latest necklace and matching earrings – the Esmerelda.

Esmerelda is a combination of antiqued silver chain, the signature “Twisted” medallions and lots of feminine details like pearls, faceted crystals and a delicate crystal rondelle.  The necklace is a generous 62 inches long – which means you can wear it as one long lariat or wrap it into a shorter look.

My favorite way to wear it so far is to wrap it twice around my neck and use the clasp to link the two layers of chains together.  It keeps the wraps from shifting or tightening and is very comfortable.   It can also be wrapped three or even four times around your neck to create a layered bib necklace or choker.  The Esmerelda is even long enough to be worn as a delicate belt, or wrapped lots of times around your wrist to create a cuff bracelet.

Okay, so the matching earrings don’t have the same flexibility (would you really want earrings that can be worn as a belt though… didn’t think so!), but they provide a gorgeous accent to the necklace:

They’re made with four layers of the same antiqued silver chain and matching beads & pearls as the necklace.  The earrings are lightweight and comfortable to wear – even with all of the lovely accents!

Get Twisted With Esmerelda!

Unlike some materials, pearls seem to exude their own restrained elegance…

But what happens when you add spikes and pearls together??

Japanese jewelry designer, Saya Hibino has paired classic pearl stud and drop earrings with some decidedly unusual accents.  Her new earrings combine white, gray and black pearls with little rows of either sterling silver or gold spikes:

The spikes turn the pearl earrings into something very hip and contemporary – but still totally wearable.  These are her gray pearl earrings with 14kt gold spikes, on matching ear wires.

Or if black pearls are more your style, you can get them on ear wires with either 14kt gold or sterling silver spikes as well.

Spiky Fun with Pearls

Do you like your jewelry clean, simple and bold?

Bold & Bright Jewelry from Deborah Grivas

This Wednesday is Remembrance Day or Veteran’s Day, depending on where you live.  In Canada and England, red poppies are worn to remember those who lost their lives in the different wars.

While these poppies aren’t the ones that are traditionally worn, I think it’s still appropriate to wear them in memory.

This felted poppy necklace is by AVA Original Felted Art and is made using merino wool.  It’s adjustable, depending on how many times you wrap the “stem” around your neck.

These delicate earrings are made using glass bells, flowers and beads, on sterling silver hoops by Canadian jewelry designer Amanda Mackay.

Eight Seasons created this unique wristlet using layers of red leather, shaped to created little flowers, on a base of cream-colored leather.

Like almost any award show, there was a mix of high fashion, trends and some… interesting choices by some of the stars.

Happy Halloween

The jewelry designers from Turtle Love Committee want to change the way you think about jewelry.  Their clean, simple and elegant designs feature river rocks.

That’s right, river rocks.

Rocks that people have gone out and found on the banks of local rivers, that have been polished by the water and pebbles until they’re smooth.

And guess what – the jewelry is lovely!

The Sheridan pendant is made from a single rock, found in Upper Michigan.  It’s strung on sterling silver with a sterling silver chain.

The matching Sheridan earrings come from the same area in Upper Michigan.  The earrings are hung simply with sterling silver wire on ear post findings.

The Waldoboro pendant comes from a river in Maine.  The stone has been wrapped in a sterling silver and hung on an 18″ chain.
