I think everyone is trying to be a little “greener” these days, but does that mean you need to give up being a fabulous fashionista?

Of course not!  There are lots of things you can do to stay fashionable and be eco-friendly at the same time.

• Recycle your cell phone, PDA, batteries and even laptop.  Keeping electronics out of landfills is a great way to stay green.  Can you get your pricey electronics repaired instead of buying a whole new one?

• Try out green materials.  Organic cotton, recycled materials and upcycling all reduce our environmental impact.
• Got to fly to your favorite fashion week?  How about buying carbon credits to offset your plane flight.
• Support companies that have a strong environmental policy.  There are lots of great accessory and jewelry designers who are committed to being green.

AVEENO’s Eco-Chic Earth Day Tote!

David is a big supporter of the environment, in fact he recently worked  with Kate Hudson to launch an eco-friendly hair care line, David Babaii for WildAid, that not only is made with natural, good-for-the-Earth (and you) products, it also gives 10% of its revenue to WildAid, the wildlife conservation organization!

I love stuff like that: Nothing like being beautiful AND doing something great for our universe.

According to David, one great way to save time and electricity – two valuable commodities in my home – is to wash your hair at night before bed, and wake up styled. Here’s how:

· When hair is slightly damp, create multiple sections and braid your hair tying the ends with an elastic band (depending on how much texture you want, make the braids loose (less texture) or tight (more texture)) *the braids do not need to be very precise

· Next, spray the braids with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray (or any beach spray you like) and go to sleep

· When you wake up, undo the braids, give your head a little shake, and add in some additional Bohemian Beach Spray to achieve desired texture and volume – this creates a great Bohemian Look.

Another way:

· Place all of your hair in a messy ponytail – be creative and twist sections tight or loose to achieve various textures

· When your pony tail is secured, spray with a Beach Spray and sweet dreams

· When you awake, undo the pony tail for an effortless but eco-chic look

Wash Hair at Night, Wake Up in Style!

We have some fabulous ideas on how to do this, and will share them all as we get closer to Earth Day (April 22). Our guru for this momentous task? Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii shares his ideas on how to achieve texture – with no electricity

· After washing, comb your hair and apply a light texturizer (one that’s intended to create waves or curls)

· Twist sections into small buns and allow your hair to air dry

· Once your roots and ends are dry, unwrap your hair and use your hands to break up the pieces

· Flip your head over and apply more texturixer

· Allow to continue drying then use your fingers to loosen the look

· Flip your head over and back, give it a quick shake, and you’re ready to go!

Style Your Hair – Without Electricity!

But what is it made out of?

Take a closer look – those are aluminum tabs off the tops of pop cans!  They’re crocheted together to create a very cool looking textile.  Now that’s a bag that’s as good for the environment as it good looking.

How about this one:

Zipper pull tabs!  The zipper tabs are fastened together to make a slinky evening bag – perfect for a night on the town.

The bags are created by Brazilian designer, Neide Ambrosio to be environmentally friendly and fashionable at the same time.

Earth Day at the Beauty & Style channel

Let’s start off with the “Baldaci” shoe from Timberland:

It’s got an organic cotton upper and lining made using 70% recycled fibers.

This totebag combines two Earth-friendly things – first of all, carrying a totebag means you don’t need to use plastic bags.  This “Shelogical” totebag is also created with organic cotton (did you know that cotton is one of the most heavily pesticided crops?)
