Red has always been a great Fall color. It makes an outfit pop it has been seen on the runways in past few seasons. Like I mentioned before, I went shopping this weekend with some of my friends. One of them stopped at every single red trench coat she saw and said that she loved the red color because it matched her light complexion and it was good color for Fall. I’m no complexion expert, but I do like to think I know a thing or two about fashion. She was right about one thing, the red trench was a good choice for the Fall season.

One great red trench that we found while dreaming was this Cole Haan Eco Trench. It’s not only pretty, but is also made of 100% recycled polyester fabric for all you eco conscience chicks. There’s also a removable wool liner so it can be your “winter coat” as well. There’s a wide trench belt and measures 33 inches from shoulder to hem. It is $475 from Neiman Marcus.

Okay, I’ll be honest. When I think eco-chic, images of heavy-soled sandals and stiff hemp dresses dance through my head. I guess I’m like most people, I want to buy green clothing, but I’m waiting for it to start looking a little cooler. Canadian designer, Leanne McElroy is trying to change how people think of eco-chic, and with dresses like this, I’d say she’s succeeding.

Elroy is all clean design, and I don’t just mean environmentally. McElroy’s use of both crisp pleating and soft gathers demonstrates an attention to detail that has been lacking in the eco-fashion universe. It seems like a lot of eco-designers try to make clothes despite their choice of materials, while Elroy is a line that is all about the fabric. Organic cotton, in McElroy’s hands, looks soft and touchable.

McElroy says of her work, “Modern, clean lines and structured detailling are traits Elroy expands on each season. I am highly inspired by architechtural and sculptural organic shapes, and asian-(mainly Japanese) influenced designs.”

I guess I can safely discard my eco-chic prejudices now. Elroy has created a line of elegant basics that rail against the granola-laden preconceptions about what green fashion is about.

It can be challenging for eco-conscious fashionistas to find quality, trendy accessories sometimes. There aren’t a lot of options for high-end style.

In honor of Blog Action Day I thought I’d profile some environmentally-friendly reusable totebags. Taking care of the planet doesn’t necessarily mean having to make huge changes in your life – little things help too!
