This one is a real showstopper. Oh snap, now I’m gonna have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day! Anyways, I’m basically bonkers for this anything but basic dress. I love the way the silk lining ends at the knee for a very flirty lace swish at the bottom. I would wear this baby with the longest strand of perals I could find and a fur shrug, faux if you’re PETA. Garden Lace Racerback Gown by Behnaz Serafpour

This silk chiffon one-shouldered gown really makes a statement, and it isn’t “take me to the roller rink”. This drapey, dead sexy take on the one-shouldered look makes it black tie or red carpet ready. One way to keep a one-shouldered look current is by making sure it’s composed of a nice, sophisticated fabric, and not a shiny poly blend. Available for $459 (from $995).

This short, red one-shouldered dress has a caftan/kimono look. It’s not at the same level of chic as the gown above, but it would definitely start some fires on a night on the town. This look is going to take a good shoe choice to keep it from the nightgown arena, so I’d go with a closed toe to avoid the come-hither look of a mule. Flats would work, too. This sweet, short, one-shouldered dress walks the line between the other two. It’s dressy enough for an event, but too casual for black tie. As one the other dresses, the soft, gathered look of the fabric keeps the asymmetry from looking too severe. I love this dress with sparkly stilettos and a patent clutch. Carolina Herrera Sample Sale on Gilt!

This slate colored metallic brocade dress is an easy stunner. The slim cut is flattering for a lot of shapes, and the princess neckline is, as well. What I like about this dress is that it combines such a traditional cut with such a flashy fabric. it really strikes a lovely balance. I would probably wear it with ankle boots and chain jewelry rather than pumps and pearls, but it’s going to wear either way. Available for $145.

This black lace sheath gown is a serious steal at $215. It has a timeless elegance that is red carpet worthy, no matter where your red carpet may be. I love the luxurious sheen on the lace, and the ribbon detail and the waist that gentle nips it in.

Badgley Mischka Evening Wear Sample Sale!

The Fashion Show: Evening Gowns & Crystals

This stunner by Ralph Lauren literally looks as though it melted down the model’s body. I love the way the fabric pools up around the feet, enhancing its fluid grace. Unfortunately, you pretty much have to be a model to pull off a style like this, as it is as slinky as all get out.

Here’s one for the rest of us by Badgley Mischka. The gold lame fabric is so delicately draped, and I adore theway the  high points of the bust fall into a deep v. The soft pleats of the skirt created a silhouette that is forgiving if you’re a little hip-y, but not if you’re a lot.

This gunmetal grey metallic mermaid gown by Carolina Herrera has a lovely high neck that works well for top-heavy gals. Plus the volume at the bottom of the skirt will create balance with the top, and give you the perfect hourglass.

Molten Metal: Evening Gown Runway Trends

Now, if my invite ever did really come to this fabulous event one of the dresses I would for sure want to try  would be this Nicole Miller Off the Shoulder Gown. I love this muted almost grass green/olive color. It kind of has a Bollywood feel, but still screams Hollywood  (or NYC?) elegance.

The dress itself is made of moulton satin and streams down to the ground with soft side rouching. Oh, and catch this, you can hand wash it. It falls 44″ from the natural waist and is $620.

Nicole Miller Off The Shoulder Gown

This Missoni strapless gown is a unique choice. It features silver beading on the strapless bust, and the rest of gown is light blue and grey knit.
