You can find anything from booties with ruffles to lace pumps.  There are tall boots with soft gathers and peep-toe heels with over-the-top glitter or crystals.

Some designers are choosing the poke holes in the trend though – literally!

Stuart Weitzman has used an intricate laser-cut suede shaft on his gorgeous tall suede boots:

That’s certainly one of the loveliest boots I’ve come across this fall!

Stella McCartney has used perforated metallic material to create her ballerina flats.  The information doesn’t mention what the uppers are made from, but I’m going to guess that it’s a synthetic – this is Stella McCartney after all…

I wouldn’t wear them in damp weather, but I love the iron color.

While I still don’t think that cage boots are all that practical for true winter weather, I couldn’t resist adding Manolo Blahnik’s black calfskin pair:

Hey, it’s got a closed toe – that’s got to add to the insulation value, right?

Seeing Holes for Fall 2009?

I’ve already written about some of Christian Louboutin’s new mesh-detail shoes – but he’s not the only one getting into the sheer fun.  Dior, and Jimmy Choo both have mesh shoes for Fall 2009.

Of course, if you’re going to rock the mesh look, there is a time and a place for it…  In my neck of the woods, winter involves some serious snow and cold – which is just not so practical for high heeled mesh shoes!  Now if winter just means you don’t need to have the air conditioner on all the time – go ahead and have fun!

The Dior “Corset” bootie is made using kid leather with a lace upper, and is available in both brown and black.

The Jimmy Choo mesh bootie is made from a fishnet lace mesh, calfskin trim and embellished with silver studs.

And one more pick from Christian Louboutin…  The “Ambro” peep-toe pump comes in both black striped lace (shown here) or black leopard print lace, accented with patent calfskin.

Sexy Mesh Details – For Fall?

There are so many gorgeous options for purple shoes in great fall styles. You can find them in everything from super-casual flats to dressy patent pumps. I’ve pulled a few of my favorites together for you:

These suede flats by Emilio Pucci are accented with a jeweled chain and buckled ankle straps.

The “Glitzy” peep toe pump from Paris Hilton features a unique swirled patent leather finish.

The “Zanzibar” bootie by Maxstudio has a “sexy librarian” feel that should be a ton of fun to wear this fall!

Pretty In Purple… Shoes, That Is

Fringes have been around for a couple of seasons now, but I love Prada’s unique take on them:

Their black Nappa leather ankle boot is accented with a short line of studded fringe.  I have to admit – I’m not a big fan of fringed shoes that look like you’ve suddenly grown fur, but this short fringe adds a fun detail to these restrained ankle boots.

Feathers aren’t as common as fringes, but it’s shown up in a few accessory collections now.

Pedro Garcia has accented his lovely frayed satin d’Orsay with a bow and hat pin on the toe, as well as partridge feathers on the heel.  It’s definitely lady-like and elegant.
