Would You Wear Half-Gloves?

Celebrity stylists must be loving half gloves lately because they’ve been showing up on TV’s most fashionable characters. Carrie Bradshaw was wearing a pair on The Sex and the City Movie and Jenny Humphrey wore a pair to the cotillion on a recent episode of Gossip Girl.

Half gloves are a funny little accessory because they are purely fashion and no function. I think of half gloves as the functionless other half of the very useful fingerless gloves! The tiny gloves stop right at the bottom of the fingers, which leaves the palm and back of the hand completely open. They come in 4-finger or 5-finger styles so if you want extremely short gloves, you can choose the 4-finger style which doesn’t include the thumb.

Patricia Field 5-Finger Half Glove $48

Patricia Field is a friend of Sarah Jessica Parker and is the head costume designer for Sex and the City. Field designs specific pieces for Carrie to wear, so I am assuming that these are the exact style that she wore in the movie.

Patricia Field Patent 4-Finger Half Gloves $28

While I appreciate impracticality in fashion, I do think that the 4-finger gloves are pushing it a little too far. I don’t think they are as interesting as the 5-finger…

I think this the half glove is a great looking style that furthers the idea of the short motorcycle gloves that have been fashionable this season. If you want to try this look, I would definitely wear them with a feminine and sophisticated dress or separates to avoid looking too costumey. Leather gloves always look dressy so, similar to Jenny Humphrey’s idea, I think they would look great as evening wear. It does seem like a fashion risk, but it would definitely look great with the right styling.

Did I ever tell you that I knit? Well, like any good domestic goddess, of course I do. I know, you don’t care. And you think that it’s not relevant. But it is! Because I can tell you right now that I wouldn’t even roll my yarn into a ball for $34.99, so it’s an amazing price for a pair of very cute fingerless gloves. Check it.

Now, some of you may only want these for Halloween, but you’re fools. Fingerless is the wave of the future. Know why? Because I am typing with them on right now. Yes! Gloves you can type in. Or smoke, if you haven’t given up that outdated habit. And ALSO, these babies are made by someone’s mom. I bet she’s really nice, too, because her kid set up a website for her. Que lindo. Fall is the perfect time to wear fashionable gloves that don’t necessarily provide the most warmth, but add a glamorous feel to an outfit. The fingerless and open-back gloves look fabulous, but when the snow starts to fall you will have to switch to your more functional knit gloves to stay warm. I love the short motorcycle gloves that are in style now, and this pair of scoop gloves are so gorgeous!

These gloves are so perfect for Fall ‘09 because they actually incorporate multiple fall trends into one accessory: nude color, rocker studs, and motorcycle-style gloves. The scoop shows the back of the hand so these would look amazing with a cocktail dress or short-sleeved glamorous outfit for an evening out. A fun accessory is a great way to add a little more character to a simple outfit and these definitely lend a feeling of glamour.

If you are interested in trying out nude as a color but are a little worried that it may not work for you, try something like these gloves for just a tiny bit of nude instead of an entire dress or an expensive pair of pumps.

Michael Jackson: The Gloved One

To be honest, most of my childhood memories of Michael Jackson consisted of singing Black or White because McCauley Caulkin was in the video and memorizing the words to You Are Not Alone because I sang it at a funeral for a friend who died at the age of 11 (always wear your seat belt!) However, I would flip through magazines, and watch old music videos and there it was…that infamous white glove. That glove that was so sparkly and it made me want to be famous. What did I have do to be fabulous like that?

Not only are they fancy and practical, but you’ll feel all Jackson-esque with the rhinestones. I’ll be they don’t scream Michael Jackson, but, it’s the thought that counts. I think that Michelle Obama is going to be the next fashion icon for American women – the next Jackie Kennedy perhaps?

Check out her impeccable choices in accessories for the inauguration – she’s sporting Jimmy Choo’s “Glacier” pumps in a cool green:

And has even matched her gloves to her shoes – very nicely done in my opinion!

I know there is some controversary out in the fashion world about her outfit, but I think she looks fashionable and elegant – and every inch the First Lady.

I like gloves.

Gloves can be stylish, keep you warm or provide a hit of color for an otherwise “blah” outfit.

These gloves (or glove I should say) I do not like:

Normally Beyonce Knowles is pretty darn fashionable – but this metal glove (at the MTV Europe Music Awards) is just not thrilling me.

Besides, what happens if you need to sneeze or adjust your stockings? That just sounds painful….

Ah, the holiday season is upon us once again. Festive lights, music, the smell of gingerbread… and Christmas parties?

I have 10 left handed mittens

Don’t ask me why, but I lose mittens like there is no tomorrow! In our basement, we have a laundry basket and at the end of the season, all of the gloves, mittens, scarves, hats etc. all get thrown. So why is it that only the left handed gloves and mittens seem to find their way into the basket? Just last week, we were going through the basket and we could scarcely make up one pair. I think that I’m going to have to come up with a new way of storing our winter accessories. I think that we have a right handed mitten gremlin living in our basement.

So, that is why every year, everyone gets mittens stuffed into their Christmas Stockings.

The Christmas Scarf and Gloves

I have a black leather coat that this would work with, but I’m thinking that maybe I need something different. I’m not quite sure what its going to be yet, but with a scarf and gloves that is sprinkled with rhinestones, it has to be drop dead gorgeous!

Super soft luxe blend of wool/cashmere with scattered rhinestones. Red (60), Ivory (13), or Black (09). Scarf is 70″ x 10″. Gloves are in one size. Imported.

And yes, I would only get them out for Christmas and store them with cinnamon scented potpourri. Yes, I’m getting carried away here!
