What is TRIA Beauty personal laser hair removal system?

It’s a first FDA-cleared personal laser hair removal system for you to use at home. Remove unwanted hair on the legs, bikini line, underarms, arms, back, chest, and abdomen in the privacy of your home thanks to TRIA Beauty.

It uses the same technology that professional diode lasers used by dermatologists. The scientists that worked on the development of TRIA Beauty made the miniaturazation both safe and effective while using it at home.

The science behind TRIA Laser is :

based on the principle of selective photothermolysis: gentle beams of laser energy are absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair follicle and converted into thermal energy, disabling the hair follicle and causing the hair to gradually fall out. Because hair grows at 3 different stages—anagen (“active”), catagen (“transitional”) and telogen (“resting”)—repeat treatments are needed every four weeks for six to eight treatments to reach all the hair follicles at the ideal (anagen) stage when the follicle has a high degree of melanin.

TRIA Personal Laser Hair Removal System includes 3 energy levels. Once applied on the skin, the laser will emit a single pulse which targets multiple hair follicles in half-second intervals. When it’s time to move to the next area, the laser releases a short beep. The time to treat an area depends on how big the area of the skin is.

The system should be used every 4 weeks, and 6 to 8 treatments per area in order to get a long lasting hair reduction results which also gives you the soft, smooth and silky skin that you want. 2 weeks is how long it takes to see good results.

More important information after the fold….

At this time, TRIA Laser can not be used on face, head, ears or neck. There’s also information on the box of the system pertaining to skin tones. People with medium brown and dark brown/black skin tones can not use the system. These skin tones may absorb too much laser light which could cause skin damage. Light skin with tan should wait until after the tan fades before using TRIA Laser.

For safety purposes, after purchasing the TRIA system, you need to call a a toll-free number provided to confirm suitability and activate the system with a special code. A skin sensor comes with the system to confirm your skin tone as well as unlocks the laser before each treatment.

TRIA Beauty Personal Laser Hair Removal System also works with Men with the same restrictions on skin tones and body parts.

It’s priced at $995 and available at Bergdorf Goodman (NYC), The Studio at Fred Segal (Santa Monica, CA), Select Bliss Spas and TRIA Beauty website.

Hair removal is a grown-up thing. Seriously.
To be honest, at the age twenty, I never even considered waxing my legs. ( Just by age twenty-one or twenty-two heehee ). I’ve been blessed with unnoticeable leg hair that I never felt the urgency, but the moment I had it waxed, I could never ever look back again. It’s a hairless dream. Seriously ( Can you keep a straight face? heehee I’m just in a very jester mood! ).
Kidding aside, I was able to receive a unit of Braun Silk-épil Xpressive for review a few weeks ago, and I thought, [...]
Post from: Splendicity. Check out our new community features!

Seriously ( Can you keep a straight face? heehee I’m just in a very jester mood! ).

Kidding aside, I was able to receive a unit of Braun Silk-épil Xpressive for review a few weeks ago, and I thought, what a perfect way to get to know another method for hair removal aside from using tweezers, waxing, threading ( yeowch ), and shaving ( which I think I would say “pass” ). To be honest ( once again ), epilation is a really really new word for me, and I as I learned more about the Braun Silk-épil Xpressive, having microtweezers and everything, I was intrigued. Anything with “tweezers” makes me happy because I love tweezing.

Initial Impressions

I jumped in glee the moment my package arrived. When I took it out of the box, I was greeted with an impressively packaged set – in deep pink shade, very much girly. I opened the box and it had one mini pouch full of electronics, one pack of pre-epilation wipes by Olay ( which they have partnered with ), and an instruction booklet. The pouch full of “electronics” reminded me of dad’s electronic shaver that he had lost while in the course of our moving houses, so I was pretty skeptical if this was indeed an electronic shaver just re-marketed.

With the default “head”, the curious me wanted to know how it worked, and plugged it , and dialed to turn the gadget on.Woah. The sound of blades. Lots of micro blades furiously rolling and rolling.Fear welled inside of me and gulped. Am I really going to let this tool get swiped on my legs and back?

The First Roll
When night time came, I was a little bit excited and freaked out as well because I will be using the epilator for the first time. After I showered, I tried the epilator with the default, wide head on my legs. ( take note : towel-dried ). I closed my eyes for a bit because the scary sound of the epilator’s furiously rotating blades were killing me, but for one moment, I told myself, “fight!” As I started gliding the epilator’s blades on my legs, whew, it wasn’t so painful at all! Actually, it wasn’t painful at all! ( at least, for me ).

On my first pass, I felt some quick little stabs of pain ( that is more than tolerable, I might say ), and felt that skin is actually “tweezed,” and not cut or shaved at all. The epilator sure targets the roots, and I was able to definitely feel it. My leg was still not totally clear from hair after the first pass, and I had to undergo a second, or first pass to get my legs to be totally be clear from hair. Voila! Finally!

What I noticed after my legs were totally clear from hair were,

* My legs were dry. I must admit – I really hate moisturizing my legs, so a lesson learned is that I must religiously moisturize them, or else they look really dry when hairless. No hair means all bare – so, I better grab my bottles of lotion that I’ve been buying and promised to use. Take note that it’s an absolute no-no to apply lotion just before using the epilator. It’s great to use it afterwards, though.

* My legs were not totally smooth after epilating. Ingrown hair. Lesson learned : exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate to get rid of dead skin cells to prevent parts of hair hidden under the skin, unable to be removed by the epilator. Sigh. Twas one hindrance in smoothing my hands in one glide to my legs. There were “bumps.”

To sum up with my review # 1, the Braun Silk-épil Xpressive is simply heaven-sent , but one must study Epilation 101 prior to using it an “going to battle.” I’ve been surprised with the comments of some that epilating was very painful for I did not experience excruciating pain – or the hair on my legs were simply too fine that they’re not too painful to remove. Well, that’s another review !

I know. I’ve blabbered endlessly about hair removal just lately because tis the season to bare some flesh – summer! I’ve talked about razors, wax strips, and several beauty gadgets, but let me just let you know that there’s another new hair removal gadget in the corner, and it doesn’t just offer “for the moment” short-run hair removal – it’s a long term hair removal technology that is found in the new Braun Silk-épil Xpressive Epilator.

Ø Patented HairLift technology that lifts, loosens and gently removes hair from the root.

Ø Sonic tweezer system that uses a 40 tweezer epilation system that removes more hair with each stroke than any other epilator.

Ø Flexible head that can pivot by up to 15 degrees to adapt to the contours of the bodyØ Interchangeable caps for a customized epilation experience

Ø Olay pre-epilation wipes to cool and soften skin prior to epilation

Ø Ability to remove hair as short as .5mm in length – much shorter than the 2-5 mm required for waxing – so you’ll never look like sasquatch in a skirt

The Braun Silk-epil Xpressive promises women up to four weeks of smooth, hair free skin without constantly waxing, tweezing, or doing the usual hair removal ritual. Its 40-tweezer epilation system removes hair i one stroke, and from the roots that promise women a luxurious DIY hair removal session whose results are more lasting than normal routines out there. It can also be used to various areas in the body with unwanted hair such as the face, the legs, the underarms, and even the bikini area.

What impressed me is as compared to waxing that requires 2-5mm length of hair before it can be waxed, Braun Silk-épil Xpressive can remove hair as short as .5mm in length. So, another option for me, that I would love to experiment with! What I know is that I am still not willing to undergo permanent hair removal by laser because I don’t really see the need, so I pretty much want to stick with DIY products, or gadgets.

The Braun Silk-épil Xpressive promises long term results that I would love it if it would take hair removal off my worries for a while. I shall be updating you guys on how it fares on me. Let’s hope for the best!

I am always, always in awe of the wonders of Veet as it did not fail me as I did a feat, and used it 30 minutes I jumped in my friend’s car to head out of town. 30 minutes before, I was freshly showered, all made up, and all giddy to go out of town when I realized – hey, I’d be wearing a bikini, and I wouldn’t want to look hairy!

So there, coincidentally, I saw a pack of Veet Wax Strips waiting for me in my mom’s beauty counter, as I whipped two sheets in a heartbeat – for in the past, my sister advised me to scrimp with only one sheet for both legs, but I felt it was inadequate for my needs. My hair’s really unnoticeable, but if I can see it, I don’t feel good. First, I rubbed both sides that were sticked together so that they’d be warm, as I “plastered” them on both legs. I love it that when I pulled the strip off my legs, I felt that the wax was very sticky like “crispy glue” that definitely got the hair out in one effortless pull. I did not have to repeat on one area whatsoever and just proceeded to wax, wax, until my legs were clean hair-less. Oh happy joy! Unlike the past brand that I have used, what I love Veet is that the wax is very sticky and pulls of unwanted hair easily. And I mean dead easily.

I also thought I wasted one strip for I could have used just one strip for both legs, as it does not lose its “waxing power” after waxing off unwanted hair on one leg unlike the past brand that I’ve used. I was just in too much of a hurry that I decided to use two at the same time, but I’d recommend only using one strip at first to test “its powers.”
Waxing Tip : It’s always stressed to wax your legs after you shower, when you have soft skin and the hair’s pores are open, for easier removal.

My favorite wax Strips brand must be Veet. It has three variants, perfect for every skin type:

For normal skin – refreshing with mint

For dry skin – moisturising with Papaya oil

For sensitive skin –with Vitamin E and Almond Oil

I got mine for Dry Skin because I’m such a hardheaded brat who just won’t apply lotion on her legs. Hahaha! But then, really, once the legs are bare, I really felt the need to slather it with lotion!

The wax strips are very easy to use – just rub the strips ( which are two ) between your two palms for them to warm up, separate the two strips, apply each on each leg ( or maybe, one leg at a time ), then rub the applied strip downwards, and remove, in an upward motion, in a very very fast manner. Voila! Then repeat, until the legs are hairless. Quite easy, huh?

You would never want to pay someone to wax your legs, I swear! Do them on your own!
