Home Fragrance Shopping Deals From ULTA

You can make them yourself. Purchase or collect about 2 pounds of pine cones. The cones are part of a visual display, so pick pretty ones. The cones that are open give you more area to cover with scent, so keep that in mind, as well.

Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones

2 lbs pine cones
4 ounces cinnamon scented essential oil
1 lb whole cinnamon sticks
1 large garbage bag
1 paint brush, one with a 1 inch width works well

Use the brush to liberally brush the pine cones with cinnamon essential oil. Be sure to paint each section of the cone.  Break the cinnamon sticks up into small pieces. Place the “painted” cones into a plastic bag with the cinnamon sticks. Fasten the bag closed and leave it that way for at least 8 weeks.

At the end of 8 weeks, take the cones out of the bag, and place them in bowls or baskets throughout your house. The scent will last for a few weeks.

Home Fragrance: DIY Scented Pine Cones

By using essential oils – either in combination or as a single scent – and floating them in little bit of water, I can save money and tailor the fragrance to my own taste and mood. You can find essential oils in health food stores, in the health food section of your local market, or online. Cermaic oil burners are available all over the place – Walmart, Target, World Market, etc.

Keep in mind that this is aromatherapy that we are talking about and certain scents can affect your mood. For example, citrus scents are energizing, they make you feel perky. Lavender, on the other hand, aids in relaxation.

When heating oils in the diffuser, fill the top reservoir half-full of water, then add a few drops of essential oil. Light the candle below and scent will be released in a few minutes. Check the water level periodically and the scent can last as long as 3 hours.

Here are some fragrance ideas:

Single scents
*Bergamot
*Rose
*Grapefruit
*Lemon
*Lime
*Lavender
*Vanilla (You can use Vanilla Extract)
*Juniper
*Coriander
*Anise
*Orange
*Cinnamon
*Clove
*Rose Geranium
*Eucalyptus (especially nice during cold and flu season, soothing)
*Peppermint

Combinations:

*2 drops each of Grapefruit and Lavender
*2 drops each of Clove and Orange
*2 drops each of Cinnamon and Orange
*3 drops Bergamot to 1 drop Ylang-Ylang
*1 drop each Bergamot, Cypress, and Juniper
*3 drops Frankincense to 2 drops Basil
*3 drops Mandarin or Orange to 1 drop Vetiver
*2 drops each of Cinnamon, Clove, Lavender, and Orange

If you don’t have a diffuser, or essential oils, don’t worry. You are not out of luck. Simply look around your kitchen for the necessary supplies. You can simmer a small pot of water and whole spices on the stove.

Add to the water any of the following:

*Apple slices (especially good paired with Cinnamon)
*Citrus peel, thinly sliced; Lemon, Lime, Orange, Grapefruit, Mandarin
*Whole Vanilla Bean
*Whole Cloves
*Whole Star Anise
*Whole Cinnamon Sticks
*Slices of fresh Gingeroot
*Peppercorns

Or from your garden:
*Rose petals
*Juniper Berries
*Rosemary

Keep an eye on the water level in the pan and simmer at a low temperature.

DIY Home Fragrance

I like the new Febreze Home Collection with the Flameless Luminary, Scented Reed Diffuser set, Soy Blend Candles, and Room Spray. The products are available in Herbal, Fruity & Refreshing, Natural, and Seasonal scent categories.

I really like the Flameless Luminary in particular. It’s cute and it gives the appearance of a candle, but you can use it anywhere without worrying about fire danger. Each kit contains a reusable lamp base, 2 batteries, and a 2 scented shades. The shades last for a week.

My favorite is the Green Tea Citrus. It’s a nice scent and the gray luminary shade is a neutral color that goes well in most decor. The scent is fairly powerful, so use this one when you want to scent a larger room.

Home Fragrance: Febreze Home Collection

Here’s a description of Beach Blonde, which is one of the two fragrances that I purchased:

If you enjoy spending long summer days at the beach, the Beach Blonde fragrance from Tyler will be a new favorite. It is a crisp invigorating scent reminiscent of sand, warm suntan oil and sea mist.

I smell it and it’s like I’m  a child, sitting at the shore with my mom. The smell is so very her, with a whiff of suntan oil. When I was a kid, Mom’s purse held that smell all year. I only tried a Beach Blonde votive, but I’m going to get the big one next time.

The other candle I picked out was PMS. It has a chocolate scent – a true chocolate scent, which is hard to find. I want a chocolate that smells like a brownie.

Just what you’re craving, chocolate.  The PMS fragrance is a spectacular scent of freshly baked chocolate cake!  With the perfect finishing touch, coconut shavings!

Home Fragrance-Highly Scented Tyler Candles

A room remodel can get pricey, so I’m going to start small – paint, couch pillows, and home fragrance. I’m going to start with this Table Sconce that was hand-crafted by Richard MacDonald. It reminds me of sea glass, you know those little pieces of smooth glass that you find when you walk along the shore? The light from a candle will look beautiful reflected by and through the different cuts and textures of glass. It measures 5 inches high by 3 3/4 inches wide.

I like these long-lasting scented candles Archipelago Botanical Candles from Sensia. They are made with lead-free wicks and essential oils. I like the Luna Candle. It has a combinaton of Lemon Verbena, Lavender, and Thyme. It’s off-white, so it would make a subtle decorating accent. I am looking for a beachy combination of tan, off-white, brown, and light blue accents. The Madagascar candle is a caramel brown. It would work well, too. It’s Orchid, Vanilla, Freesia, and Jasmine. Or the Havana in a cocoa brown with notes of Bergamot, Cuban Tobacco Leaves, and Ylang-Ylang.

Jo Malone’s Refreshing Orange Blossom Scent

Soy candles burn clean and are better for lung health than traditional candles made from petroleum products. A non-lead wick, like those used here, are an additional safety measure. Each 7.2 ounce Mrs. Meyer candle burns for 35 hours and are available in Geranium, Lavender, and Lemon Verbena.  Mrs. Meyer’s recommends trimming each candle wick to a quarter inch before lighting and burn for 2-3 hours at a time.
