indie prom: for the romantics
Lockets are truly romantic, so if you’ve found yourself a girly, frilly dress, add to it with a gorgeous faux abalone locket from ColieArt.
There is space for two pictures, so you can plop one of your beau in there to surprise him and then change it out with your prom picture to remember the night.
18″ long. Silver finish. $15
Get it at ColieArt.
indie prom: one shoulder dress
My prom dress was a one-shouldered asymmetrical black velvet dream. I still own that dress because I love it.
This dress, by the awesome Porter Grey, reminds me of my dress, so I had to post it. It’s got a shimmery look to it and is super simple. Maybe some big bangles with this one.
$365, in numerous blue silk.
Get it at shopbop.
indie prom: go vintage
Want something a little more classic for prom? How about a ’50s tulle dress in remarkably good condition? Nikita Jade has a bunch of prom dresses, but this is my favorite. It’s classic, gorgeous and fits in with the whole nautical trend right now.
Bust: 32″ Waist: 26″ Length: 43″ $125

indie prom: amy butler clutch

JillyD made this cute little clutch from gorgeous Amy Butler fabric. I love the bright colors, there’s little it won’t match.
11″ wide and 6″ tall. $15.

indie prom: kahri ’50s dress
(image: kahri)
It’s a little 50’s swinger a little punk. I love Kahri’s stuff, because it just screams rock ‘n roll. The embellishments on this dress are great, and it’s something you could wear to another event, too.
In purple only. Small to large. $200.
Get it at Kahri’s shop.
t-shirt ball gown
(Image: Oak Boston)
I’ve featured Angela Johnson before, because she makes such great dresses. Her t-shirt party dress is a good option for prom, but I wanted to point out the ball gown version.
It’s your classic great big ball gown, except it’s made out of t-shirts. You can give Angela a bunch of t-shirts you want used, or she’ll pick out some herself, depending on what you what. Since it’s custom made, I’d get on this one fast.
Petticoat or crinoline not included. Extra small to extra large. Custom made. $400
Get it at Oak Boston.
indie prom: jackie dress
(image: dotted line)
The best part of prom these days is that it’s not all floor length stuff, which means all sorts of dresses are possible.
Dotted line usually makes work-wear for women, but there are a few after-hours dresses that I really love. The Jackie dress is so inspiring. It’s so retro glam! It’s satin and silk shantung, two of my favorite eveningwear fabrics.
Fully lines. Sizes small to large. $159
