Adventures in Dress Shopping | Rachel Roy Mika Dress

I’ve always been one of those women who wants a dress to do do double duty. In other words, when I shop, I want to buy knowing that what I purchase isn’t a wear-it-once wonder. So, in shopping for a dress for Jane’s wedding, I want a dress that I know I will wear again. This option, by Rachel Roy, is a no-brainer:
The delicate lace paneling in a classic sleeveless style is definitely something that will not only take me from day to night, but also from party to party, with ease. I love the feminine bow detail at the …read more

Adventures in Dress Shopping | The Boudoir Dress by Elizabeth and James

I love spring. Flowers, weddings, short dresses, pastels. All of it totally throws my usual all black uniform into upheaval, but in a refreshing, exhilarating way. Too bad it isn’t here yet. But a girl can dream. And shop. I’m still looking for that perfect dress to wear to Jane’s wedding. Here’s another option:
I love the simplicity of this style, and its retro 80’s vibe. I’m not sure I would wear it with boots to the wedding, but I do like the way the dark leather contrasts with the softly feminine appeal of the dress. The shape is amazing for …read more

Please Excuse My Shoe Fetish | Christian Louboutin Satin Papilipi Pumps

Okay, okay. Two pairs of Louboutins in one week might be a little overkill. But, these shoes have come up so many times shopping this week that I just had to post them. Once in black to match the Stop Staring dress I shopped, once in fuschia to match the buttons on Jane’s wedding dress, and now I’ve come across them in blue…what can I say? I’m helpless before the all-powerful shoe God.
I wouldn’t even usually like a style like this. Only a four-inch heel, and with details that come up onto the foot in a way that could be …read more

Adventures in Dress Shopping | Zac Posen Dahlia Strapless Ombre Dress

Okay, so this is more of a fantasy purchase for me than a real-life consideration, but in the search for dresses, sometimes you have to aim high to figure out what you’re looking for. I’ll remind you of my requirements: short, not too formal, not hot pink, and something I get get away with in daytime or evening. This Zac Posen strapless ditty fits the bill to perfection:
I adore the sculptural quality of the design, and the subtle pastel color pallet. Unfortunately, it’s $2,300 at eLuxury, which is a little out of my price range. But, gorgeous nonetheless, and totally …read more

Adventures in Dress Shopping | The Vogue Glamour Blush Dress by Stop Staring

I think I found something! Now, be open-minded, because it isn’t exactly “formal”, but neither is Jane’s wedding. This is my first pick of what I might wear to this informal formal event:
It’s more of a cocktail dress than a daytime dress, but I think it strikes the right balance between formal and not, and the pale pink has the double appeal of making it a little more appropriate for daytime, and also totally goes with the hot pink tones of Jane’s wedding colors without being too matchy.
I love the retro appeal of the jaquard bengaline stretch fabric contrasted with …read more

Jane’s Best Woman | The Jill by Charsa

Okay, well, I think I’m beginning to get a better idea of what level of formal to expect from Jane’s wedding. Her “best woman” (who, I think, is the only bridesmaid) will also be wearing a dress by Charsa. Here it is:
This style is called the “Jill”, and it will be in hot pink to match the buttons on the back of Jane’s dress. I love the flattering fit-and-flare shape of this style, and the rouch detail on the torso. The cross-over v-neck top would be flattering on women of many different shapes and sizes, and I can’t wait to …read more

Jane’s Wedding Dress: The Caroline by Charsa

This May, my boyfriend’s best friend, Jane, will be tying the knot in Florence, Massachusetts. Knowing Jane, I guessed that she would not be having a super formal, black-tie affair, which has left me really confused about what to wear to the wedding myself. I decided that only way to figure out what to wear to a not-so-formal formal event was to figure out what everyone else is wearing, first. So, I have been trying to pry all the details out of Jane. (Thanks, Jane, for being so helpful!) This is her wedding dress:
The Caroline by Charsa is a tea-length …read more
