Okay, I might be obsessed with everything retro and vintage, but so is everyone in Hollywood. Almost all of todays red carpet successes harken back to a time past. Vintage reproduction style gowns are on the rise in popularity, and it’s no wonder why. After all, who can beat the glamour of the golden years in Hollywood? And who would want to, really, all we’ve actually invented since then is polyester? Take a look at this vintage-nspired gown by Jovani in a sleek body con style favored by modern day bombshells like Jordin Sparks and Kim Kardashian:

Alexander McQueen, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: 1. The ubiquitous skull scarf 2. The affordable collaboration with Target 3. Pret-a-porter that would make most runways blush.
If you are looking to attract a lot of attention at your next black tie event, then look no further. This purple, floor length column dress by Alexander McQueen is a real showstopper. Spring Elegance | Catherine Malandrino Printed Long Dress in Sandbar

This gorgeous silk maxi dress would be perfect to wear to a daytime wedding this spring. It has an elegant, bohemian vibe that is very hippie chic. I love the slimming vertical stripes and the soft colors. The cut of the dress lends itself well to a wide variety of body types, and the drape of the fabric is perfect. Plus, it has pockets, which I adore in a dress of any kind. Be careful, though, if you’re short, as you might have to wear some pretty high stilettos to keep from getting lost in all this length. There comes a time in every bride-to be’s life when she realizes that the styles she likes best may not be the ones best suited to her. She will shove her shapely hips into Spanx one size too small, consider not eating until her wedding day, and generally obsess over every dress that could be THE dress, but doesn’t work for her body. And then, hopefully, she will come to terms with the fact that it is more important to buy a wedding dress that looks good on her instead of someone else. This is all to say that, in …read more
Adventures in Dress Shopping | Pieced Lace Art Deco Gown at The Frock

In my search for the the perfect 1930’s or 1940’s wedding gown, I have come across a lot of fabulous dresses. My parameters have been bias cut charmeuse, long sleeves, and, well, something that will fit on my not-so-vintage sized frame. This gorgeous pieced lace deco gown does not fit the requirements, but I still can’t get it out of my head. The elegant drape of the sleeves and skirt balances out the structured lace bodice perfectly. And although I actually hate bell sleeves, they don’t look costume-y on such a streamlined piece. Available for $2,650 at The Frock. Let …read more
Antoinette Sequined Dress by Diane von Furstenberg

No one does dresses like DVF. I have such an obsession with her wraps that I find myself endlessly scouring eBay for vintage prints in my size. But it isn’t just her trademark wrap dress that she does well. There is something especially feminine about her work, something both delicate and easy to wear. Try this one on for size:
It has the soft drape top that Furstenberg is known for, but combined with the smooth column of sequined fabric: POW! This is a dress that you could dance the night away in, for sure. The classic white color will never …read more
Dramatic and Graceful Alexander McQueen Silk Chiffon Draped Gown

Alexander McQueen is known for his quirky, irreverent designs. But, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a softer side. With this delicate silk chiffon gown, he remakes traditional Grecian draping via volume. I particularly like the way the rear sash (attached at the right shoulder) lifts up the side of the gown and creates a subtly asymmetrical hemline. This statuesque masterwork is a surefire way to get noticed at your next black tie event. Imagine it with those gorgeous Louboutin T-bar Sandals poking out from under the chiffon, and a simple metallic clutch. This beauty is available at Net-A-Porter for …read more
