When I was younger, if I heard the word Gucci my mouth started to water, I did a happy dance and I started to dream of adulthood. The word Gucci, though, meant something different to me. It meant high school. See, my high school plays a rival school in a classic bowl game every year in a game called the Gucci Bowl. And, until I realized that there was more to Gucci then Friday night lights, cheerleaders and fun commemorative t-shirts, that’s all Gucci was.

Today though, Gucci is much more. Gucci is luxury, it’s classic, and it’s fabulous. Of course, high school has come and gone and I’m pretty sure we only won one of the four Gucci Bowl games when I attended high school. But Gucci…Gucci you are still there and you are still fabulous and I want to own everything there was there made with the Gucci label on it. Everything, including this Marina Horsebit Necklace.

The summer may be coming to an end, but the holiday season is right around the corner. That can only mean one thing! More traveling! And if you have a large family you may be going to lots of different places. If you travel to more then just your family’s home, say some fabulous friend’s house, you may need to bring along more than just that old stand-by foundation, blush and lip gloss. What do you pack that makeup in? You could pile them in Ziploc bags and on a wing (get it…you’re flying..because it’s travel season!) and a prayer hope that your makeup bottle doesn’t break or spill.

This clutch is totally going to be part of my “I don’t need you but if I had a million dollars to spend on clothes I would buy it” list. What girl can honestly say that this hot pink neon clutch circa 1982 did not catch your eye? It is stunning! But oh so unpractical for the outrageous price tag of $1,095 at Net-A-Porter.

However, if you’ve got some extravagant fiesta to attend (a la a wedding of two friends you’ve known since elementary school who are tying the knot in October….wedding!) then perhaps…this could be an option for the reception. The bag has glitter splattered throughout and has embossed claps to hold the few items you can fit in the purse nice and tight. It measures nine inches wide by 4 inches high by 3 inches deep.

Messenger bags are always great. They usually have plenty of room to store all the needed accessories, but have the added bonus of not being so heavy that you want to amputate your shoulder after a long day of shopping, walking, or just generally walking around with a purse. That’s why I had several messenger bags when I was working out in the community as a community organizer. Now, I’m back to a desk job, and my bag of choice is a lap top bag, but nonetheless, there is still a little place in my closet devoted to the messenger bags of the past.

I could definitely make some room in my closet of memories for this Foley + Corrina Perforated Over the Body Bag from ShopBop. I think the neutral color is great for all seasons, but even more so for the summer/Fall transition. The zipper pocket it the front gives you a bit of extra storage for the little things you may need easy access to, like lip gloss, keys, kleenex, etc. There’s a magnetic closure in the main section. The electric flair of the tassel also adds to this funky bag. It measures 13 inches high by 15 inches long by 4 inches deep. And just so we are all aware, the shoulder strap is 20 inches long. This bag is currently $575.

Lanvin Rounded Sunglasses

Ever since Johnny’s Lanvin knock-off fiasco on The Fashion Show, I’ve been obsessed with Lanvin. Well, not to say I wasn’t before, but I’ve just started to keep an “eye” on the designs. Keeping an eye the designs brought my attention to these great sunglasses at ShopBop.

Take a look at these Paris Wouter Rounded Sunglasses with metallic accents. What I absolutely adore about these shades are the the gradient coloring of the brown on the rims and side pieces. You can get these glasses in a tortoiseshell or a black. They are currently $300.

Now, my mission is to find a knock off of these sunglasses that look almost as good as the dress Johnny made on for the dress challenge on The Fashion Show!

I have a friend who has an obsession, a wallet obsession. One weekend we were doing some Spring cleaning and I came upon her wallets. There were big ones, small ones, bright ones, dark ones, brown ones, black ones, you name it she had it.

Of course I knew about this obsession, but it was just amazing to actually see all these wallets in person. I asked her if I could swap her one of her wallets for one of my pairs of shoes. You should have seen the look on her face. She was wounded. How dare you ask to trade me one of your 500 shoes for one of my 501 wallets. Needless to say, the swap didn’t occur, but I did find a new appreciation for wallets that day.

Most people with some type of creative bone in their body find inspiration from nature and their childhood home. That is no different for jewelry designer Winifred Grace Gundeck who is from Miami Florida. She is the designer of some beautiful pieces that I happened to stumble upon a few days ago.

Ms. Gundeck and I both share a passion for the Spanish language, she has a degree in Spanish andso do I! After spending time getting her Master’s in Graphic Design, she remembered how much she missed to her youthful memories of selling barrettes on the streets. With these memories in tow, she decided to return passion of designing accessories. Winifred Grace was created in 2003.

Winifred Grace is based in Chicago, Illinois (go Cubs!) and is sold in several luxurious retail locations in California, Illinois, Florida, New York and Georgia. It sounds like I’ll be taking a road trip to go see some of these in person.

The designs are decidedly girly and very fashionable. If you adore the boho chic look or even the vintage feel every now and then I highly recommend taking a look at both the Spring 2009 and Classic 2009 Collection.

Investment Alert: Yael Designs Jewelry

I have a rule. If I wear my accessories (earrings, necklaces, rings, etc) more than once a week, they’re good earrings. And good accessories mean they’re luxurious accessories. This also means I spend a lot on them. I’m also always looking for great pieces and designers for these investment pieces (since I’m not buying a house anytime soon why not invest in good jewelry right?)

I’ve found a wonderful designer and collection that I’m totally going to one day be able to save up for. The designer’s name is Yehouda Saketkhou and you can check out his jewelry designs at Yael Designs. He grew up and was inspired by the Parisian life style (much like Christian Louboutin!). Yehouda has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion about jewelry. These characteristics shine through every single one of his pieces. And much like the uniqueness of Louboutin, Yehouda Saketkhou has to make things all his own.

He says, “Every step in the design process must be seamless in order to effectively evoke and communicate the inspiration, personality and story of each piece.” And each piece is special in every way. It’s special for everyone; especially for brides. Yael Designs specialized in bridal jewelry, but honestly…who is going to say, “Umm..I’m pretty sure that’s the 04330 Bridal Ring from Yael Designs that I saw online.” At least I hope not. You need new friends if that’s all they’re concerned about (unless you’re working at Vogue, Allure, or some other ultra fashion-y place).

These are totally investment pieces, but don’t you ever call them ‘fashion’ pieces. Mr. Saketkhou explicitly states that, “I design my pieces to move through the changing fashions, yet I don’t design ‘fashion jewelry’. Instead, I sculpt wearable works of art that have substance and can be worn as easily today as they can 50 years from now.” So watch out everyone, in 50 years you all may be looking for vintage Yael Design jewelry because it is still fashionable.

I’m particularly in love with the Mosaic Collection that will be fully available in August (counting down the days!). These pieces range from dangly black and white earrings to bold and daring rings. If you’re looking for something a little more subtle, though, look at the Luna Yellow Diamond Collection which showcases smaller but equally as stunning rings.

Whatever your tastes in jewelry, I recommend you take a look at Yael Designs. You may find one or two “dream’ pieces or you may be making a grocery list of pieces you want. Whatever the size, it’s always nice to dream of that one investment piece you may not actually invest in.
