MAC Dazzleglass Creme Collection

You have to thank legendary makeup artist Tom Pecheux for inspiring the inner diva in all of us. He designed this Hollywood starlet look for the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2009 RTW show.

But how do we translate these looks from the rocking runway to our own individual style?

Try these tips …

Brows:

A clean groomed brow is the in look. So try ELF’s “Wet Gloss Lash Brow Clear Mascara.” It is an affordable buy ($1.00) and does the job right; one side for the brows while the other for the lashes.

Eyes:

Start off with a base eyeshadow color like M·A·C Cosmetics “Brule”. If you have a medium to dark complexion I would use M·A·C “Bamboo” eyeshadow instead.

To get a strong smoky eye effect, use a shimmery dark eye shadow. This doesn’t have to be black. You can use any dark shade. For instance try M·A·C “Smut” eyeshadow.

Use a crease blending brush like Smashbox’s #10 to apply the eyeshadow on the lower part of your lid. Use a horizontal sweeping motion starting from the outer corner of your eye working your way in. And work the color up to the middle of your eye crease. Its always best to shake off excess eyeshadow before application, this will prevent stray color.

Line the bottom inner lash line with a white eyeliner. Apply a small amount of the dark eyeshadow just underneath the lash line using a firm small angled brush. The contrast between white and dark makes a smooth clean line.

Follow up with a touch of mascara. Or add a pair of false lashes if desired.

Cheeks:

For your cheeks try Smashbox “Bronze Lights.” ($28.00) Apply the bronzing blush at the base of your cheekbones and work your way up and outwards towards your hairline. It will give the apples of your cheeks a nice glowing tone.

Lips:

Make your lips pop by using a dark red matte lipstick like M·A·C’s “Ruby Woo”, or “Chili”. To achieve this look you must emphasize the shape of your mouth by using a lip liner. First use a lip primer or concealer over your lips. It creates a blank canvas for your dramatic lip color. Next line your lips. The easiest way is to hold your pencil at an angle and use the point for tight corners. Try using a small lip brush with firm bristles, like Smashbox’s #18 to fill in your lips. Remember to blend the lip liner and lipstick well.

Makeup How-to: Glamourpuss

Shine, shine, oh why do we shine all the time? I hear this so much from my clients. They ask, “How do I control this?” Proper skincare products are a must but for a quick easy fix there is M·A·C Cosmetics “Matte.”

It’s a cream based product that is much more than an anti-shine. It works as a primer, creating a smooth finish to your foundation. In addition, apply it to your eyelids and it helps increase the longevity of your eye shadow.

How to use:

This product can be used before and after makeup application. But for the best results apply a small amount after you clean and moisturize your face. Remember use a sponge and blend it in really well. Another way to apply it is just to your “t-zone,” cheeks, and chin; the places where you suffer shine the most.

You can also apply the product on your eyelids. It will extend the life of your eye shadow and also prevent oily creasing. I recommend using a small brush or your fingertips for application.

Makeup How-to: Shine Over!

Created from bio-converted honey, lavender, narcissus, jasmine flower waxes and blue agave extracts, this body wash is nourishing and soothing. It provides just enough lather without being overly bubbly. The scent is relaxing and sensual. The product really moisturizes skin, leaving it silky soft.

M·A·C Naked Honey Moisturizing Body Wash

Maybe it’s because I’m too fair. So, I eventually go back to other colors — red, berry, brown … anything but pink.

Recently, I was trying out different lipstick from M·A·C Cosmetics and came across a terrific pink that I love — M·A·C Makeup Art Lipstick in High Strung.

High Strung is a dark pink shade with a little silvery quality. Similar shades normally don’t look good on me but this one is outstanding.

Generally olive skin is flattered by true pink. Dark skin works well with rosy pinks and pinks with blue undertones. And very light skin should steer clear of pinks with yellow undertones, which make you look sallow. These are really broad guidelines — you have try out the colors yourself.

The lesson I learned is that everyone can find the right pink if you try hard enough!

Finding Your Right Pink

M·A·C Just a Pinch Gel Blush

A couple products that fit that description are:

MAC Gently Off Eye & Lip Makeup Remover
This oil and water formula is one that I like. Mascara comes off pretty easily and you don’t need to rinse. My only issue is if I use it a few days in a row, my eyes get puffy. But my eyes are super, super sensitive, so it’s probably just me. The 3.4 oz bottle is $18 at maccosmetics.com.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
Like the MAC product, this is another one that you have to shake before using because of the dual formula. It works well with no oily residue. Also like the MAC eye makeup remover, it uses cucumber extracts. Though it works to remove most eye makeup, including waterproof mascara, it doesn’t remove one particular Estee Lauder eye liner that I use regularly. A big plus is that this oil-free makeup remover from Neutrogena is only about $6 at your local drug store.
