Backstage at United Bamboo: Shiseido Makeup

Fashion Week isn’t only about the clothes. It’s about the crowds, the hair and of course, the makeup too. Let’s take a look behind the scenes at the United Bamboo Spring 2010 show as Dick Page, Shiseido’s artistic director, put together the makeup look.
I thought the faces of the United Bamboo models on the runway looked very doll-like but not overdone. This season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, we are seeing a lot more natural, wearable makeup than we have seen in some season’s past.

Quick and Easy Summer Makeup

Recently, I came across this article by Anne Fritz, About.com’s guide to 15 Minute Fashion. It’s a great piece on 5-Minute Summer Makeup. Anne (with the help of professional makeup artist Ildiko Juhasz) puts the emphasis on healthy, “summer-proof makeup.”
She narrows things down to moisturizer, bronzer, simple eye makeup and lip protection.
For me (if I’m going out but not to anywhere special) I use Neutrogena press powder to even things out (or grab a tinted moisturizer), put on a little grey eyeliner and a dab of lip gloss. Then I’m good to go.  For evening, I add black mascara, gold, …read more

Eyeglasses and Eye Makeup

By Guest Blogger Hillary Rubin, Stylist for GlassesUSA
Many years ago, when I was just studying the field of cosmetology, I scored the mother of all beauty internship in my area. I began working as the assistant to one of the top makeup artists in Detroit. My interview consisted of me sitting in my former bosses makeup chair while she tweezed my eyebrows and instructed me to ditch my eyeglasses in order to get contacts.
Her words were harsh — “No one can see your eyes behind your dork-gear. You need contacts if you want to keep this job,” she barked. I …read more

Contact Lenses and Make-Up

By Guest Blogger Maria Grieco
Just because you have a vision defect, such as astigmatism or nearsightedness, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your beauty in any way. Girls, who prefer to wear contact lenses rather than glasses, can use make-up without it ever affecting their eyes.
It is important that you take proper care of your contact lenses and only choose appropriate high-quality cosmetic products, which will help avoid eye irritation, allergic reactions, dry eyes, and infections. Make sure that the contacts are never contaminated by your cosmetic products; always clean your hands and fingers, with pH neutral soap if possible, …read more

Save! Under $10 Eyeliner

It’s easy to spend a lot of money on makeup – but are there areas where you can stretch your budget and still look good?
Eyeliner is one product that doesn’t necessarily need the luxury label to be a good choice. I have always been happy with relatively inexpensive drugstore brands, which are a fraction of the cost to their high end counterparts.
Here are a few quality eyeliner options you should be able to find at your local drugstore:
Almay Amazing Lasting 16 Hour Eye Pencil – waterproof, hypoallergenic and includes soothing Vitamin E for sensitive skin. Comes in black and …read more
