The formula’s mousse-like, jellified suspension system utilizes “swollen” water to gently and lightly suspend the ingredients, allowing the use of less wax to add dramatic volume and lifting. Adding to the exceptionally light base are ultra-light, lash thickening, “Y”-shaped Micro-Lock fibers that reinforce the volume enhancing, airy properties of the formula. These innovative nylon fibers interlock and stack together to create a pillow-like cushion around each lash, filling in even the sparsest of lashes and delivering glamorously rich volume and lift. The fibers are blended with Tack-Flex polymers that have the ability to quickly coat lashes from root to tip keeping lashes, light and flexible while adding exaggerated volume and weightless lift.

Add in their technologically advanced brush design and what does all that mean to me and you? Long, lush, colorful lashes with lots of lift that don’t clump, flake or fade throughout the day.

For green or hazel eyes, I think the Amethyst shade is gorgeous. Brown eyes are complemented nicely by the Amber or Garnet, while the Emerald adds some drama to blue eyes. Additionally, I tried the Sapphire shade on myself (I have green eyes) and adored the look. And my blue-eyed friend loved it for herself as well. On one side is a fabulous mascara. It lengthens and stretches your lashes, leaving them long, lush and clump-free. It’s a really good mascara in a shiny shade of black.

However, before you apply the mascara, flip to the other end of the wand. Here you will find a conditioning lash primer that nourishes your lashes. Using plant extracts and natural oils, it helps your lashes become softer and stronger.

Right now at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com, you can get a free deluxe sample of Extremist Mascara in Noir with any Rock & Republic cosmetic purchase of two or more items. You might know Rock & Republic more so for their jeans, but they also have a terrific line of makeup.

To give you an idea what size a “deluxe” sample is–their full sized mascara is 0.23 oz, while this one is 0.13 oz. Not bad.

Free Rock & Republic Extremist Mascara

But the risks are real – and if you wear contact lenses, then there is even greater room for eye cosmetics to cause damage to your eyes. So what can you do in order to enjoy your eye cosmetics without putting your eyesight at risk?

Prevent Blindness America has compiled a list of things you can do to keep your peepers happy and properly enjoy eye makeup without the risk -

• Never use eye makeup testers in stores or share eye makeup with others.
• Dispose of eye cosmetics three months after purchased, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
• Always apply makeup outside the lash line to avoid contact with the eye.
• Never store cosmetics in extreme heat or cold conditions (such as a car), as this can break down preservatives, allowing bacteria to grow.
• Never apply makeup while driving or riding in a moving vehicle.
• Never apply eye cosmetics if eyes are already red, swollen, or if you have recently undergone eye surgery until an eye doctor has given permission.
• Never dye eyelashes or eyebrows. No color additives have been approved by the FDA for permanent dyeing or tinting of eyelashes or eyebrows.
