Women
*Feeling hot and frazzled?  Store your lighter-scented body sprays in the fridge, then pull them out when you need a cool refreshing mist.
*Layering is good idea. Start with a scented body wash, then layer on lotion, fragrance, etc, for better staying power.
*Summer is the perfect time to try out a scented body powder. I use one with a lavender scent that compliments, but does not over-power my perfume. I apply it after showering and it really helps when the temperature goes over the 100 degree mark.
*Fragrances with a water, green, or a citrus note are refreshing. Look for notes like water accord, lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, or grass, when choosing a new fragrance.
*No matter what the weather, wear what makes you feel good. I like to try newer lighter scents, but I always go back to my favorite scent, which is a warm oriental, because it makes me feel good. When choosing a scent, follow your instinct. Don’t worry about rules.

Men
*Men like to smell good and the market is finally reflecting that. Great-smelling products are available in locations that span from department store to grocery store.  Start with a scented body wash. Many are available with a deodorant, because smelling funky isn’t cool no matter what the season.
*When shopping for a body wash, look for something that mentions water, citrus, or refreshing in the name. These are more likely to contain the notes I mention above – water, citrus, and green. Use your nose to trick your mind into thinking that it’s cooler than it really is.
*The same goes for men’s cologne or eau de toilette. My son recently tried the new Nautica scent “Oceans” and it features notes of water, salt, and lemon. It puts him in a beachy state of mind no matter how many hours we live from the coast.
*Don’t forget your skin. Look for sunscreens and moisturizers that are scentedwith something other than chemical-yuck.  KINeSYS carries a product with a pina colada flair. Yum. Wear that and you’ll be the most popular guy on the beach.
*Ultimately, I advise the same thing for you men as I do for the ladies – wear whatever makes you feel good. When it comes to fragrance, follow your nose. And wear deodorant.

Bold New Fragrance – DKNY Men

“…I think that HUGO Element smells of a particular lifestyle – a very urban lifestyle, where creativity surrounds you in everything that you do, everywhere you go. I like the fact the fragrance is both fresh and spicy whilst the hint of woodiness makes it masculine and elegant.”

I agree that it is both masculine and elegant.  I’m not sure about the Urban element – but that might be because I’ve never lived in a very urban area – I’m a lifetime suburbanite.

All four elements are covered in the fragrance notes. When I smelled HUGO Element, I thought of water, which is what they were going for in the top note of calone. HUGO Element has a spicy heart note of ginger and coriander leaf, which represent the fire element. The base note is cedarwood, the Earth element. Air is represented by the bottle which is a play on an oxygen bottle.

The bottle is substantial and heavy, very masculine. It’s glass with a metal top – Greg, my tester really liked it. He liked the fragrance, too, but would only give me general descriptions, saying he didn’t know anything “technical” about fragrance. He’s obviously not the target audience, but I think his approval means that it’s a fragrance that will appeal to a lot of people.

I tried the fragrance on myself and after the water element faded a bit, I was left with a very nice woody scent. I’m a fan of woody scents. I would enjoy smelling it on a man. Too bad that Jonathan Rhys Meyers isn’t available locally. I like that Element is a clean scent, subtle, so that it will enhance a man’s presence, rather than overpower it.

HUGO Element – New Scent For Men, From Hugo Boss

….made from grass, sweat, boot leather and heat spray is set to be given away free.

Scent of Success has been developed by computer games manufacturer Sports Interactive – who will be giving away the fragrance with the new ‘Football Manager 2009′ game – and is set to inspire struggling soccer teams.

The perfume is said to have been created by collecting samples from the changing rooms of top teams.

Miles Jacobson, a spokesman for Sports Interactive, said: “If Britney Spears and Kerry Katona can have their own fragrance I don’t see why we can’t.

“Our scent will bring the dressing room into the homes of Football Manager 2009 players, inspiring them for pre-match team talks, preparing them to direct their team from the sidelines and prime them for a tricky press conference.”

At first, I thought, this sounds crazy, but then I thought…hmmm……..This may be under the heading of too much information, but if they are able to capture the scent of a man fresh off the field, I’d love to give this one a sniff.  Grass, musky men, and boot leather.  Interesting.

Daddy Yankee launches a cologne

Are you a fan of Galliano’s fashions?  Will you flock to buy the scent? It certainly sounds interesting.

In fact, it’s a theatrical, but not a melodramatic scent. A powdery mix of iris, rose and violet, with a nostalgic hint of old make-up compacts and dusty dressing tables. Galliano described the ideas behind the perfume whilst wandering round his studio ( a former doll factory complete with bamboo garden.) He said it captured the smell of powder and greasepaint at the National Theatre where he worked while a student at Saint Martin’s College, as well as the slightly singed, metallic odour in the atelier caused by ironing linen. The nose behind the scent, Christine Nagel, recreated this steam sensation using a molecule called sclarene, the powdery effect is suggested by iris, violet and aldehydes, the latter of which also suggests effervescence ( perhaps evoking the ubiquitous fashion party champagne.) White rose, patchouli and yes incense, also feature. Unlike in the typical pyramid formation of many perfumes, these elements intermingle as a melange, rather like the eclectic inspirations behind Galliano’s clothing collections.
