The fedora is a classic hat that can be worn by men of all ages.  George Bailey has been designing and producing wearable hats for men since he started the hat company Bailey’s in 1922.  Some credit Bailey as the trendsetter who started the popularization of styles like the fedora, derby, and godfather hats in the 1920’s.  His hats were worn in Hollywood by classic film stars like Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart.

Brooklyn store Epaulet has a great selection of summer styles of Bailey’s fedoras in light colors and fabrics.  Here are my favorites that are available online:

Bailey Hats for Men at Epaulet

This particular fedora is pretty darn similar to Batista’s regular style. He’s always sporting a fedora with a colorful feather and often the hat’s body is all black.

The hat to the left is the Jaxon Blues Crushable Fedora. It’s 100% wool and is flexible, making it easy for travel, or in this guy’s case, catching bad guys. You can get it in black, brown, navy and grey for $32 if you order it at Village Hat Shop.

Though, he’s got so many different styles, the detective and sergeant is probably most commonly seen in this type of style. It’s a light colored fedora with another feather.

This is the Panama Teardrop Fedora by Belfry Gable, on the right. One of it’s greatest features is that it’s water repellent. You can also remove the feather, so if it’s not your thing, then don’t worry about it. Because this hat is such high quality it will cost you a bit. The price on this fedora and feather is $78 at Hats in the Belfry.

Fergie’s Cloche

I’m liking Fergie’s cloche. It’s a cute addition to any outfit, really. This Belfry Novak Patent Leather Cloche is similar to what “The Duchess” is wearing.

It’s got a wool felt body, providing warmth and durability. It also features a satin lining in the hat’s interior and a patent leather band. This hat has that charming 1920’s/1930’s look, yet it fits well with modern style. You can buy this woman’s cloche on sale at Hats in the Belfry for $55.

Josh Duhamel’s Cap

Get heartthrob, Josh Duhamel’s, look by grabbing this Washed Military Hat in black. The soft cap is 100% cotton and features two ventilation holes on each side, giving you some space to breathe. The adjustable tab at the back makes it possible for almost anyone to wear.

Fergie’s Shades

Fergie seems to be wearing Chanel’s 5145 Blue Lace Sunglasses. It’s a pretty nice style; good for anyone who likes to look chic. Finding these shades online is tough, though. You can order them by phone through Sunglasses-Shop UK, but if you’re not in the United Kingdom it might cost you a pretty penny for shipping. The price for them without extra cost is £185.00 or about $270 USD.

Get Fergie and Josh Duhamel’s Hat N Shades Look

You can order it at Banana Republic right now. The store is having a major sale so the price of this cap has gone down a huge amount. You can now buy this cap for $14.97, down from $69. I also put up a pair of oversized sunglasses two days ago from BR that were on quite a discount.

Suede Military Cap on Sale

One great place to look for skater hats would be Tactics.com. I found this New Era Speedway Hat there. It’s made from wool and is completely covered in speedway checkers. If you’re not liking the red, you can also get this in black and grey checkers. You can order this hat online for $35.95 at Tactics.

You can also check out Underworld-shop.com because they’ve got a great variety of beanies and trucker hats and everything along those lines. This is the Basic Visor Beanie, made from machine-knit acrylic material. It’s available in black and white for $21.99.

If you’re interested in getting a sports related hat, try out NewEraCap.com. This is an Atlanta Braves hat from New Era’s 59fifty line. It’s got a moisture absorbing sweatband and is custom made in different colors. This company sells sports hats ranging from NHL to MLB. You can find pretty much any team’s hat there. This sports hat is available for $31.99.

What to Wear Wednesday: Hats for Skater Boys

The Mountain Hardwear Women’s Vela Beanie is a twist on the traditional beanie. It’s got a nice little brim, so that you can wear this style without having to squint in the sunlight. The completel acrylic chunky cable knit beanie design is comfortable, warm and inviting, while the pom pom at the top adds a cute touch. Comfy Women’s Vela Beanie

According to multiple reports I’ve found online, his shades are the Dior Mist 1. It’s funny since they’re actually a pair of women’s sunglasses and are apparently very durable. Kudos to Will for pulling off a pair of chick shades! You can find them at hiSunglasses for $194.99.

Will’s beanie hat is reversible and supposedly made by American Eagle Outfitters, but I think it might have been made specially for the movie. I haven’t found one that was exactly like the one in the movie, but American Eagle has some other great beanies. Take the AE Reversible Stripe Radar Cap, for instance. It’s a reversible beanie, featuring a large eagle on the other side. The color shown on the left is chalk, but the beanie is also available in root bear color. Grab this at the online AE store for $19.50.

Movie Look Monday: Will Smith in Hancock

Step 1:

Take a look at the colors and styles. Start with the basic shape of the fedora, which varies in styles such as “gangster,” “Bogart,” and “Stetson.” Then look at the material of the hat, which is most often soft wool. Check out straw and rougher wool as well. Finally, consider color. Black, gray and brown are the most popular colors. But, auburn, white and olive green are also widely available.

Step 2:

Think about small accessories. Many fedoras have a silk band around the crown of the hat. Others have elegant or brightly colored bird’s feather tucked into a band or wide, colorful ribbons as in the porkpie variation of the hat. Check out the different kinds of accessories that come on fedoras so you can make a good purchase.

I tend to find that when you have a calm or neutral looking outfit, it’s nice to make it pop with a cute or funky design on the fedora. If you’re going to buy a fedora that’s one solid color, I’d recommend perhaps finding one that has a silk band that stands out. Additionally, if a fedora is “busy” looking, I’d try to make sure that it has a nice silk band around it with one solid color. Just to keep a good balance.

The fedora above is the Goorin Blake Wool Felt Fedora. It’s a great example of choosing a basic color, and playing it up with a fun silk band. How to Buy the Right Fedora

For those of you who celebrate Christmas, get into the holiday spirit with these cute Christmas hats! Shown above, we have the Knit Santa, which I just think is adorable.
