Watching the runways isn’t always about the dresses, the pants, or the tops. Designers work a whole heck of a lot of time on their accessories. The hats, the handbags, the hair, and of course shoes are all of the utmost importance. Just like in the real world, the accessories make the outfit. If you haven’t heard of Russian Kira Plastinina then it’s probably for a good reason. Headlines were dominated by the loss of retail, advertising, and personal profits. Despite the economic downturn, Plastinina from debuted her own chain of mid to high priced boutiques.  Plastinina, whose project was bankrolled by her father, was crushed when several of her stores were closed after she filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the United States.This is just a monor loss to the young designer, though, she still has over 50 store locations open in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Milan Fashion Week hit a high note yesterday with Gucci Spring / Summer 2010. Celebs including Mary J Blige sat front row taking in the structured tops and bloomer shorts that graced the runways. Gucci has always been known for very classic and in your face looks, which was no different this season.
In the past bloomers may have only been for underneath big dresses and for a woman’s eyes only. Don’t tell the designers of Milan Fashion Week to keep the bloomers to themselves though! Bloomers were on the runway at Prada, and they’re at it again here at Gucci. …read more

New York Fashion week is a distant memory, London Fashion Week is son to be in the past and we said adiós to the 50th anniversary to the Cibeles Madrid fashion week a few days ago. The Italian fashion industry may have been rocked by the economic downturn harder than any other fashion capital in the world. So, lots of eyes are on the forty plus designers that will be showcased during the upcoming days.
The shows started with big and fabulous names like Dolce and Gabbana & Giorgio Armani. And fabulous they were (with lots of glitz and glam on the D&G runway…including a Madonna linked boy toy sighting a la Jesus Luz).
