My pals over at URGE just published the results of the perfume contest held in their last issue. I was really impressed with all the selections, and I may well use some of them as a springboard for new scents in the future. But there could only be one winner! I’m finalizing the formula right now and it will be in the Etsy shop September 15!

Which one would be your favorite?

Read more URGE here.

After reviewing the fragrance “briefs” that were sent in, George will be adding Agecroft Hall to her line. A few of the other enticing entries appear below. As a bonus, George is also formulating another new fragrance with notes of coffee, sandalwood, vanilla, chocolate, and bitter orange. Its name? Urge.

First Friday Musk, patchouli oil, vanilla, orange. Mona Dworkin

4 Seasons Romance I would like to suggest a name for a new scent. This scent should be light, airy, fresh with a clean linen scent of romance, flowers, blossoms on a flower that will never die. Jacqueline Fisher

WINNER: Agecroft Hall Pine, cedar, violets, fresh sage, linen. Zoe Graham

‘Take me out to the ballgame’ This scent would remind anyone who grew up going to baseball games at Parker Field or The Diamond, of their nights watching baseball. Cotton Candy, Pretzels, Hot Dogs, fresh cut grass are but a few of the smells that remind me of baseball games. Donald Chandler

White House of the ConfederacyI would like to suggest a scent based on the White House of the Confederacy (1201 E. Clay Street, Richmond). I believe the former executive mansion is a gem that many Richmonders have yet to discover. The scent would incorporate the floral scents of magnolia and gardenia with a sensual and reminiscent musk. Megan Stagg

Carytown My ideal fragrance would be based around Carytown, with notes ofchocolate, espresso, cinnamon, baking bread, and vintage linen or wood Adrien Hamilton

Richmond Shakespeare Festival This scent should include a mix of archaic fragrances, blended to smell modern. Wood smoke, cloves, sandalwood, orange peel, pepper or other spices. For men and women. Nellie Bisk

A Rainy Afternoon in the Impressionist Gallery Lavender water, iris, lemons, roses, and salt. Selene Stephen

Richmond EvergreenI moved here a year ago and I appreciate the beauty of the ubiquitous pine trees, especially silhouetted at sunset. At evening time, they emit a woodsy, spicy scent that seems to cut through the heavy summer air. Ditto for the cedar trees. I suggest Richmond Evergreen, for a scent that captures the mysterious woodsy essence of our local pines. Pam Finer

Today’s guest post comes from the lovely Kim from IndieStyleFile! After you’ve finished reading her great rundown on some independent perfumers, go check out her site for lots more of the hottest fashion from independent artisans and designers.

I spend a lot of time writing about indie designers over at IndieStyleFile, but the idea of indie extends much, much further. Indie can be anything artisan, and that includes fragrances.

My love affair of indie fragrances began with our very own Amy. I had just discovered etsy and MakeupAlley, a makeup and beaut discussion board. It was there I heard about Modern Atelier, one of Amy’s endless side projects.

Long story short, I got four fragrances in the mail: Three for me and one for my boyfriend. Amy helped me choose fragrances that I might like and everything, as it usually does with indie artists, came beautifully packaged and personalized. The ones I got are still constantly in my rotation, and I love them dearly.

Like buying anything else indie, it’s all about the communication between you and the seller. You can ask for custom blends, or more descriptions on how something smells.

So here’s a quick and dirty list of some of my favorite indie perfumers.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. This site is a cult favorite. I’ve yet to order any of the small oil “imps,” but I don’t know a single person who does not long something on their scent list.

Possets This site has mainly oils, which, I think, can be longer lasting. It’s a much smaller bottle, but oils are supposed to sink into your skin more than alcohol-based fragrances.

Mad City Sue A popular Etsy bath and body seller, Mad City Sue also makes perfume oils.

Theme Fragrance I’ll admit that my favorite thing about this line is their labeling. It’s gorgeous. They don’t heave too many fragrances, but if you love girly tropical scents, Theme is the place to go.

The results are in! I’d really like to hear more about the notes of Blend #7!!!

FIRST PLACE
(we had a three way tie for first place.)

Texas Charm Candle & Bath Company’s Blend #7
This was such a wonderful and complex fragrance. Neither one of us have ever come across something like it. It lasted a good long time and really had the essence of a great fragrance.

Sharon Bolton Scents’ LUV
This is a truly feminine fragrance. Very soft and full of floral scents. A very original fragrance that is just right for any woman.

Heaven & Earth Essentials’ Blue Moon Dream
Wow! This one was a real original. Notes of everything blue and yet not overpowering in any way. It has floral notes, fruit notes combined with vanilla absolute. And, a good unisex fragrance.

SECOND PLACE
(another tie)

DSH Perfumes’ Cafe Noir
This was such an original, interesting and sexy fragrance. It arrived in this wonderful glass flask and the first sniff blew me away. To top it off, it lasted almost an entire day on me. There are so many notes in this perfume but they combine into one incredible scent.

Callisto Bath & Body’s Sienna
This is a warm and sexy perfume. With notes of Vanilla, Egyptian musk, amber and brown sugar it was just a really good fragrance. You can really discern the notes but they joined together so well.

THIRD PLACE
(yet another tie)

Bathing In Luxury’s Exotic Spicy Fig
I really like this perfume. To me it smells like Sexy Christmas. Very unisex with notes of cinnamon, clove and other spices. Very original and unisex.

Modern Atelier’s Kuba Kuba
We both have never come across such a unique fragrance. It’s a combination of pineapple, mint and rum. Very original!

Honorable Mentions go to…

Opus Oils’s Absinthia
Tickled Pink Sensations’ Visions of Violets
Wylde Ivy’s Aerial

So congrats to our winners. I highly recommend any of these fragrances. So please stop by their stores and take a look for yourself.
