Fabulous Frizz-Fighters

I HATE frizz.
And I think pretty much every person that ever encountered it would agree…but the question is, what can we do to fix it? There’s endless products out there, and they have varying degrees of success…but the key may just be getting to the root of the problem.
(No pun intended.)
I consulted Mahisha Dellinger. She’s a curly-haired expert and creator of the CURLS organic hair collection. She has some fabulous frizz fighting tips we can all take advantage of. Mahisha points out that those of us with curly hair are actually more frizz-prone – it goes down to our …read more

Get Fiesty With Your Curls

Something I learned from my years of curly hair: If there is no conditioning gels or foams on hand, leave your conditioner in your hair!
Be careful not to put your conditioner on your scalp though, that will over-grease it. Stick to the bottom two thirds of your hair.
We consulted curly-hair specialist Wafaya Abdallah, and she had some great advice on making this work for us.
“Once you leave the conditioner in your hair, flip your head forward and scrunch,” Wafaya said.
This does two things, you squeeze the excess water out and set the curls. Never use a towel on your curly …read more

Nelson’s Homeopathic Solution for Acne

As if getting a pimple wasn’t bad enough, somehow it always seems like the super extreme acne-fighting skin care products that you use to zap the pimple end up making your skin even worse.  The area around the pimple gets irritated, red, dry, and flaky.  So then not only are you stuck with a huge unsightly blemish, but also a newly developed dry skin problem.  Most over-the-counter spot acne treatments use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which dry out the skin and cause it to shed skin cells more readily.

If you have some of these reactions to benzoyl peroxide and …read more

Vo2 Skincare Creme Da Vovo Discount

Brazilian skin care line Vo2 Skincare is offering a special discount on their fabulous Creme da Vovó to help Splendicity readers treat their dry winter skin.  Winter weather brings low temperatures and dry air from indoor heating, which can wreak havoc on skin that has been healthy and glowing all summer.  Vo2 Skincare offers their  Creme da Vovó as a solution to the problem of sensitive and irritated winter skin.

The phrase “creme da vovó” actually means “grandmother’s cream” in Brazilian culture.  Katia Ribeiro chose this name for her “heaven in a bottle” because of the traditional recipe for the cream …read more

Reviewing the Astara Skincare Line

I am extremely committed to keeping my skin healthy, blemish-free, and moisturized.  I try to get facials regularly so that I can consult with an aesthetician if I see any changes in my skin.  I have a serious routine that I follow every morning and night to keep my skin soft and hopefully prevent wrinkles someday!  I take skincare very seriously.
I recently corresponded with supermodel Sunny Griffin about her natural botanical skincare line Astara and she offered to send me samples of her products so that I could find out for myself how they look, feel, smell…and work!  I am …read more

Etsy Weekend – Aurora Botanical Perfume

Another weekend, another Etsy post….. Today I’ve got Aurora Perfume from Illuminated Perfume’s shop. Aurora is a pure perfume with essences of Amber, Jasmine, Rose, Spice, and Mandarin. Doesn’t that sound like a lovely combination?

Aurora is a natural organic perfume that is handmade and sealed within a 1 gram size bottle that is sealed with wax. Here’s an excerpt from a review that is up with the perfume:

100% Organic – Honoré des Prés

Lucky Scent now carries Honoré des Prés, a line of 100% Organic fragrances, which were launched this past Winter in Paris, France. The Honoré des Prés focuses on the smells you find in nature – sunflowers, grass, mint, tarragon, citrus, and clove are just a few of the notes used.
I love the time I spend in the garden. I love the air out on the patio, the smell of grass, soil, my herb garden, and soon I’ll smell the sharp-bite of my tomato plants. Whether I’m …read more

Cute Piggy Soap From Bath & Body

I found this at Bath & Body Works today. A Natural Glycerin Soap with a litty piggy in it. How cute is that? It’s available exclusively online.

The natural glycerin  soap is mild. This would be the perfect soap for a child who has to be coaxed into the tub. Kids can be so funny that way, you have to pratically force them to get in and then they never want to get back out.
Natural Glycerin Soap with Pig
$6.00
Other cute tub animals in soap include a baseball/softball duck, a graduation duck, and a soccer duck. This holiday weekend, Bath & Body …read more
