Bath & Body Works: Twilight Woods

There’s nothing that I love more than a rich oriental and the new Chloé Intense did not disappoint me. I had 5 different lady friends smell it and one of the comments was very interesting to me. My friend, Leah, said that it reminded her of something from her childhood. I felt the same way when I first smelled it. I still have not pin-pointed the exact memory it is attached to, but it’s related to the powdery aspect of the fragrance. It’s very warm, womanly.

It  is both modern and vintage at the same time –  a mysterious mixture.  Chloé Intense is elegant, the sort of fragrance that makes a woman more aware of her posture or makes her feel dressed up even when she’s only wearing blue jeans.

Chloé Eau de Parfum Intense

I got a sample of Play today. The bottle is reminiscent of a mp3 player. Cute. The fragrance is fruity, but not too sweet. It has a sandalwood quality to it, but that’s not one of the notes.

It smells clean, without smelling like soap. It’s made for men and I intended to give it to my boyfriend, but I think I’m keeping this sample for myself. There’s nothing about the scent that screams MEN. It’s just very nice, one of those scents you want to keep sniffing. I really like it a lot.

Top note: Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Bitter Orange, Grapefruit
Middle note: Amyris Wood, Black Pepper, Coffee Flower
Base note: Vetiver, Patchouli

It’s also available in a Play Intense version. I didn’t get a chance to smell this one, but the notes sound good. It’s a woody oriental.

Justin Timberlake Is the Face of Play

Fancy smelled quite a bit like candy to me – it had like a toffee or caramel scent to it. My daughter, Bailey, who is 17, loves Fancy and uses it regularly. Fancy Love  feels like a more mature scent. It has a romantic feel to it with a floral start and a warm sexy base. The scent was a collaboration between Jessica Simpson and a team of perfumers that included Yves Cassar, Celine Barel, Pascal Gaurin, and Clement Gavarry.

I got the press kit for Fancy Love back at the end of May, when Jessica Simpson was still hot and heavy with football player Tony Romo. It mentioned how important “romance” was in her life and how this scent was reminiscent of falling in love and “timeless” white lace.  (Possibly she was thinking marriage?) I hope that the fragrance proves more successful that the Romo/Simpson union. (I do not get the appeal of that boy at all. He’s just a boy. Big deal).

I like the fragrance. I have worn it a few times since it arrived in the mail. It has a long list of fragrance notes – a lot of florals – but I think that the charm is in the base. Amber. Patchouli. Musk. Wood. I love them all.

Jessica Simpson’s Fancy Love

It’s a Floral with fragrance notes of Gardenia, Magnolia, and Jasmine. Reese wanted her fragrance to reflect both her past and her present. She grew up with a Magnolia tree in the backyard of her childhood home in Tennessee and the name, “In Bloom” is how she feels in her life right now.

“I’m feeling very strong and independent, and so happy, so full of life. The fragrance truly captures that feeling­­ — it’s very sensual, very romantic and alluring.”

Reese Witherspoon is also AVON’s Global Ambassador. She is the Honorary Chairman of the AVON Foundation. She works on behalf of breast cancer awareness, domestic violence awareness, and emergency relief. She is involved in product development and ads. Not a bad gig.

The List Maven Is Giving Away Fairy Dust

This week I had the opportunity to sample some products from Merlot USA. 

I was very excited to try the Merlot Divine Eau de Parfum Spray. My oldest daughter was home when the mail arrived and we quickly spritzed ourselves.  I liked it. It’s a fresh, light fragrance. I think it had an “earthy” quality to it.

I hope they decide to come out with a candle, because it would make a great home fragrance, as well. We all liked the bottle.  It is tall, thin, and can be used later for a bud vase. 

I had seven ladies try the fragrance. Five of them loved it, one liked it, and one was not a fan. I’d say that six out of seven is pretty good.  One of the testers had this to say, “It’s a nice, light scent, that would be best suited for a romantic date. Your date would want to move in close.”   

Merlot Divine

Merlot also sent me some of their Grape Seed Moisturizer.  I loved it. I’m 42. I have combination skin and occasional breakouts (not fair – there should be a law against having to live with grey hair and pimples at the same time) my skin can be tricky.  This moisturizer has a light feel, but delivers some serious moisture, and it did not break me out. It has a nice soft scent (it’s the inspiration for the Merlot Divine scent). My daughter, Bailey, who is sixteen, tried the moisturizer. Again – no breakouts. 

Merlot has a large selection of skincare products and they are all very reasonably priced.  I am going to look into their eye cream.  I’ve been in the market for a new eye cream.
