I love the way this dress flows and the detailing on the neckline and straps. It’s a red, in your face dress but it’s also simple and quite stunning.

At first I thought the length of this dress was a bit awkward but if you think of it, it has a cool vintage vibe going on. I absolutely love the texture and pattern of the fabric.

This gorgeous bronze column dress is all sorts of sexy. The high cut of the leg slit with the strapless top just screams red carpet ready. I really like the matte and metallic sheen on the fabric and pattern too.

And I’m excited to show you my favourite gown from Carolina Herrera’s show…

Isn’t it divine?! I’m in love with it, especially the colour! The high shine of the purple is insane and one shoulder style is completely luxe. The pattern reminds me of a refined basket weave pattern, so unexpected!

Overall the Carolina Herrera collection for NYFW was sophisticated and elegant. Here are some behind the scenes peeks and of course the rest of the collection!

Aveda

The top is textured with tousled volume, and the sides are smooth, and slicked back, with a straight-yet-messy knot at the nape of the neck.

It was pretty hot – as were the designs!

Designers have been showing some gorgeous pieces for Spring, with yummy colors and very wearable accessories coming up for the next season.

Diane Von Furstenburg continued the trend of bold, simple accessories in bright candy colors with her big bangle bracelets:

The knotted necklace almost has a tribal feel to it – but updated with more of those great colors.

I can pass on the feathery sleeves, but those shoes from Zac Posen are completely yummy!  How can you resist the combination of blue satin, crystal accents and bows?  I don’t think you can get more girly-girl than that…

I love Lacoste’s simple, elegant white sunhats – accented with a plain black ribbon band.  They’re completely wearable and very flattering – now where can I get one, please?

Candy Colored Accessories at NYFW

While we can’t physically be there mingling with the designers, celebs, taking in all the fashions and taking home amazing swag bags, we have the wonderful world wide web and all the pretty clothes, shoes and accessories are merely a click away!

I browsed through a few of the designer collections that were shown the past three days and the clothes, shoes and accessories are just to die for.  One collection in particular caught my eye straight away and I was surprised to find out it was by Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano.  If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll know this “fierce” designer is truly a talented individual and his Spring/Summer RTW line shows it.

There are a few dresses that were just stunning in design, colour and style…

This dress is so perfect for a spring or summer dinner party or even as something one would wear to a wedding. The blue is fantastic and the hat adds a bit of a whimsical touch.

This dress is where Christian incorporated the neutral tones in the beginning of his collection and meshed it with variations of red. It’s one of those dresses I picture a Hollywood starlet wearing to the Oscars or other awards shows. I’m loving the full skirt and tiers of light and airy tulle!

Here’s another statement dress, this time in deeper shades of reds, burgundy with hints of copper and gold.  The simplicity of the strapless top balances out the flounce and intricate folds and large ruffles of the skirt.

And lastly, my favourite gown from his collection…

Isn’t it breath-taking? It reminds me of ocean waves crashing along the shore. I love all the different shades of teal and blues mixed with the black and white – wow.  I love how the top of the dress with the asymmetrical design of the one-shoulder is sleek and sophisticated, while the bottom of the skirt is voluminous and fun.

Christian Siriano’s collection started off with a neutral tone of creams, ivory and beige but then came a cool splash of iridescent light and deeper blues. At the end he capped it off with rich reds, it was such a gorgeous colour palette and I adored all of it!

NY Fashion Week : Christian Siriano SS 2010

Keen’s Steakhouse hosted the John Patrick Organic show one that reflected a fun bohemian style both in the designs – and in the hair design.

“I wanted to dig deep below the surface of Bohemian style and create a free-spirited look that’s chic, pretty, and fresh,” says designer John Patrick.

The hair for this show was styled by Odile Gilbert for Aveda. “I call this chic-bohemian look ‘the wave,” said Odile.

Odile says Patrick was inspired by a picture taken in the Krazy Kat Club in the 1920’s, where the girls embodied a “wholesome Bohemia” This inspiration turned into a look that was part seductive modern girl, part speakeasy fun.

Their goal was “distinctive, intellectual, and very pretty—yet fun-loving and young.” The did this with hair that was smooth and shiny on top with soft, free-flowing curls below the cheekbone and volume at the front—pulled back into a barrette, adding a girly touch.

Don’t you LOVE it? It’s totally glam in a vintage calendar way that I’d love to recreate.

If you want to try to do this yourself, here’s some tips from the team:

* Prep hair with Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam to add body, volume, and shine.

* Brush hair through and create a deep side part.

* Divide hair into three sections: bottom, sides/top and middle, and secure in place with hair clips. Spray each section generously with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for shine and hold.

* Starting with the nape of the neck, curl small sections of hair using a 1 inch barrel curling iron. Once curled, roll each piece into a loop using your index finger, and hold in place with a single-pronged hair clip. Continue curling hair, working around the sides toward the top of the head, leaving a one inch piece of hair untouched. Spray each curl with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for added hold.

* Curl the one inch piece of hair forward and secure with a single-pronged hair clip to allow the hair to cool.

* With the exception of the front curl, remove all hair clips and brush curls through to create soft, full waves.

* Rub Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax between palms and smooth over the top of hair to reduce flyaways and add shine. Hair is now smooth from crown to cheekbones becoming full, loose curls.

* Remove clip from top curl and twist slightly to create volume and lift in front. Secure hair in place with two small hair pins, and then pull back with a larger barrette that matches hair color. Spray Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray directly on the lifted section of hair to add volume and hold.

* Finish the look with a final misting of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray.

We Go Bohemian at John Patrick Organic

NYFW runs from today, September 10th through until September 17th.  If you haven’t been able to make it to New York yourself, never fear – Splendicity will be bringing you the best of the shows all week long!

As part of fashion week, Mercedes Benz is hosting a week-long accessories exhibit.   Nine designers are showcasing the best of their jewelry, handbags, shoes and accessories.

This is Lulu Frost’s “Black Sterling Bib” necklace, made with vintage African sterling silver beads, clear resin beads and metal chain.

Lisa Kornman has used some very interesting materials for her latest line of handbags.  Exotic leathers like snake, fish and crocodile are paired with domestic leathers like lamb for some unique looks.  This is her “Susie” handbag, made with washed lamb leather, accented with fish skin and featuring metal octopus hardware.

Isharya fuses a modern aesthetic with East Indian flair to create their stunning jewelry.  The “Multi Chain” earrings are made with 18kt gold from their “Bollywood Star” collection.

Accessories Exhibit at NYFW

I just received confirmation that the super chic White House Black Market will be opening a Pop Up shopping boutique in SoHo that night!  The Pop Up will be a first for WHBM and the second WHBM location in NYC.  Want to check it out? Here are the details:

WHEN :  September 10, 2009
WHERE : 508 Broadway between Broome and Spring Streets – With 2200 square feet of shopping heaven!
WHAT : The White House Black Market Pop Up Boutique will provide shoppers with special pieces their fall collection. That includes items featured in the September magazine ads and editorials.
FUN : There will be four Mac stations inside the boutique where shoppers can access the WHBM website and facebook page. And there will be refreshments and a dress trunk show event.

But wait, there’s more!

During Fashion’s Night Out, stop by both locations (2nd location on 136 5th Ave.) to receive 15% off your purchase and if that wasn’t good enough, 10% of that evening’s sales will go towards the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. A great way to do good while you shop!

White House Black Market Pop Up Boutique

Sophia Bush, star of One Tree Hill, looked absolutely gorgeous at last week’s Marc Jacobs show for New York Fashion Week. Here she’s shown carrying… a Marc Jacobs handbag, of course!

Now, isn’t this an interesting handbag? I’m on the fence about it, honestly. I love the ‘main’ bag’s shape but I’m unsure about the kiss lock pouch on the front. It’s a bit, much I think. Sophia’s handbag complements her neutral, earth-toned outfit well. She punched up her look with orange Marc Jacobs heels which pick up the orange in the floral pattern of her bag.

This version of the Marc Jacobs Iconic Glitter Robert has a much more subdued look to it.  It’s definitely made for someone who has a certain kind of style. Made of soft grained leather, polished gold hardware and rolled leather handles it’s not your typical, every day handbag.  The pouch on the front of the bag is very dramatic; made of quilted suede and embellished with rhinestones all over. It’s the type of bag that begs for you to reach out and touch it, to feel the texture and look at the the craftsmanship. Another embellishment on the Iconic Glitter Robert is the two little gold frogs on the kiss lock closure with crystals for eyes. Total Marc Jacobs quirky-ness! $2650 at eLuxury

Marc Jacobs Iconic Glitter Robert

Designers mixed pearls and chains to create a look that was definitely feminine, but with an unstructured edge.  Want to create your own take on it?

Let’s start with the “Janis” necklace from Forever 21 (ringing in at only $10.80):

The pearls are long enough to knot, like some of the looks from Baby Phat.
