I’d guess that it would be something in the fruit or floral family. I’d also guess that Paris Hilton thinks the same thing as her new scent, Fairy Dust, has a strong Gardenia note. 

I had the opportunity to try Fairy Dust and I expected it to have that same sweet smell that so many celebrity scents have, but it was really more of a floral. One of my friends called it sophisticated and while I’m not sure that I agree with that – it named fairy dust after all – I will say that it does have a more grown-up scent.  It’s cleaner or simpler, which I appreciate.

What Does a Fairy Smell Like?

One tip – apparently, men prefer a sweet smelling fragrance to something floral. 

Fancy, Jessica Simpson’s new fragrance, would absolutely fit the sweet scent requirement.  I had the opportunity to try it recently and I found it to be fruity-sweet at first, but it mellowed with dry down to a sort of warm caramel or toffee scent.  I liked it, my mom liked it, and my daughter loved it. In fact, when it’s missing from my dresser, I know that I can find it in her room.  Not many scents appeal to all ages, but Jessica Simpson’s Fancy is a hit with my family. 

I’ll let you know if Whitney Casey’sThe Man Plan works when I wear Fancy on my next date.

The Man Plan and Jessica Simpson’s Fancy

They didn’t have a lot to say about the toothbrushes either, but unless there are coins popping out the end of the brush, a kid really is not going to get very excited about dental care.  I brush my son’s teeth, he’s disabled,  and I liked that the handle is very flexible. It made it easier to get his back teeth. I noticed that the brush head felt smaller, which made it easier to maneuver when brushing my back teeth.  The brushes are more angled than traditional brushes. I thought that they worked great and I will be replacing mine with another Elgypidium toothbrush when I’m done.

Product Review: Elgydium Toothpaste and Toothbrushes

I love this holiday. Looking toward the New Year is exciting. It always feels like the promise of better days in within reach. The New Year could bring anything. 

Do you make resolutions?  I do and I usually only keep a couple, so this year, I’m making them very do-able.  Usually I focus on work or family, but this year, in keeping with what I started earlier this Winter,  I’m going to include a few Beauty and Style resolutions, as well. Here goes……..

*Experiment with more color in my wardrobe. I picked up a couple of magazines today and they featured clothing in rich, bright colors – reds and yellows. I don’t own a single yellow or gold top. How did that happen?

*Expand my fragrance collection. I feel that this will help me in my work with this blog and as a bonus I will smell pretty darn good.  I’m going to make a wish list and I will at least try everything on that list.  

*Step up my overall style. I’m sloppy and comfortable and as Clinton and Stacy are always saying on What Not To Wear, “Comfortable is not a style.” 

*Try some new shoe options.  I started on this one today – I purchased a pair of cute little ballet flats. I know that flats are not very risky, but I’m a flip flop girl from way back, so I’m baby-stepping my way to fashionable shoes.

*Organize my closet.  It will be much easier to wear a stylish outfit when I can actually find a stylish outfit.

My New Year’s Beauty and Style Resolutions

Fragrance notes include: Verbena, Mandarin Zest, Chinese Ginger, Cinnamon, Vanilla Orchid, Pink Roses, and Purple Iris Root.

After wearing it for awhile, what stands out the most is the spiciness of the Ginger and Cinnamon. It definitely has a sexy scent – complex and grown-up, this is nothing like so many of those sweet celebrity fragrances out there now. It has a more complex scent, richer and earthier, although it doesn’t have the musk note that I usually identify as earthy. Perhaps it comes from the spices. I like NOU a lot.

There’s this whole video about Alma Mahler, wife of composer Gustav Mahler, but I’m not sure what that has to do with the scent. Alma apparently liked to host parties for the elite of the day and at these parties, the ladies did not wear panties. The men did not know this, but the ladies did. Going panty-less gave the women the feeling of holding a naughty-sexy secret and the male attendees responded to the women’s sexy aura. Or something like that. I did my own panty-less-ness back in the day, because I hated underwear lines. I can’t say if the men around me responded to “my secret” – I think it had more to do with my tight jeans. Currently I’m pretty panties all the way, but I still like the NOU parfum. It has a spiciness that my nose responds to. If you are a fan of a clear floral, then this might not be the fragrance for you.

Product Review: NOU Parfum by Claude Dir, For Como & Brigante

Their polishes contain no Formaldehyde, no Toluene, and no DBP.  My girls and I tried three colors: Chancer, Saucy Jack, and La Moss.

La Moss is the color that Amy Adams is wearing on her recent Vanity Fair cover. It’s a rich and sexy shade, looks great for Amy Adams’s pin-up type covershot. I’ve got it on my toes. It’s very dark in the bottle, but is a nice deep wine color when it’s applied. Saucy Jack is a pink-red and Chancer is a bright with glitter. Bay, my teen, likes to do a glitter french tip nail. The Chancer looks very festive for the holidays and the glitter is much smoother than most glitter lacquers I’ve tried. 

It dries fast, seems faster than other brands. When I did my toes, I had to put my socks and shoes on right away, because I had to go to work (I work part time as a school aide).  I took my shoes off after work (I’m happier barefoot) and my nails were fine. Phew!

We’ve been wearing butter LONDON 3 Free for three days and there are no chips. This is some great polish. I highly recommend it.

Product Review and Giveaway: butter LONDON Nail Lacquer

The GUESS bottle is lovely. It has an interesting shape with a climbing vine and blossom on it. Pretty. I liked the fragrance more than my daughters did, but I think they were blinded by thoughts of smelling like Jessica Simpson. What do those kids know anyway?  It’s a sweet scent, but not too sweet. It has a nice spiciness to it and a spicy scent is what I enjoy best.
