Wear a Dress
Unless you are going to be playing sports, a dress is ideal for an outdoor party. You’ll feel dressed up and still be very comfy. Pick a light, cotton or chiffon sundress that is a couple inches above your knee. If the event is for your office, you don’t want to dress in anything too short or too skimpy. You might think a maxi dress is a good idea, but they are really too long cumbersome if you are moving around a lot outdoors. Floral prints are always a good bet. Don’t wear silk or white, which may get dirty and damaged from picnic tables.

Put on a Hat
When you are going to be outdoors for any length of time, slather on the sunscreen. But take your sun protection another step further with a wide-brimmed hat. Fortunately for you, big floppy sunhats are in style the season. Choose from straw hats, canvas bucket hats or even a cowboy hat. Any type of wide-brimmed hat will protect your face from the sun and look fabulous.

Glam Up with Shades
A pair of oversized sunglasses or shiny aviators are perfect for an outdoor party. They add a touch of Hollywood glamour to your look and shield your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. You don’t have to spend a small fortune on designer sunglasses. Most department stores have cool sunglasses available for under $100 a pair.

Show Your Colors
No one expects you to wrap yourself in the American flag, but it’s Independence Day after all. So add a bit of red, white or blue to your look with your accessories. A bright beaded necklace or a soft body tote bag is a great way to add a splash of color to your look.

Wear Flat Shoes
This should be a no brainer, but I oftentimes see women trying to maneuver through the grass at the park in high heels. Flat thong sandals embellished with jewels, stones or beads are a wonderful choice. If you are going to be running around a lot, you can also consider a pair of colorful canvas skimmers. Please don’t wear Crocs.
