OK, so one of my events while in Macau this week will be a formal dinner – and while I have my favorite LBD and heels ready, my favorite hair guru will be thousands of miles away.

So, what do I do? I go prepared with a how-to, armed and ready.

According to my friends Celebrity Hairstylists Eugene Toye, Ryan Cunningham and Eddie Ngai from the Rita Hazan Salon, the perfect look for my party-ready look is none other than the chignon – but in a very messy, modern take.

Here’s how to do it at home (or in my hotel room):

* To give hair just the right amount of movement and keep it from being too close to the head, use a volumizing cream and apply to freshly washed and well-towel-dried hair.
* Comb product through hair and put a deep side part in hair.
* Blow dry hair with a medium round brush for added body.
* Then, brush hair back into a low ponytail and fasten just above the nape of the neck.
* Begin winding the hair around the base of the ponytail, securing it underneath and on top with bobby pins as you go. Leaving the ends out.
* It’s more modern to have pieces out for a look that’s slightly undone. Use gold or colored bobby pins to spice it up!

Pictures of my attempt to come!

The big issue for me, always, is how to adapt my hair!

The big issue for me, always, is how to adapt my hair!

We consulted expert stylist Mimi Lee, from LUX Salon in Atlanta and Mimi suggested the following trick for super-easy day-to-night styling.
1. Apply mousse or cream to damp hair. (She likes Sebastian Whipped Creme or Davines Universal Mattering Mousse)
2. Braid or French braid hair.

(TIP: Remember where you start the braid is where you will see wave, so you will want to start lower for less wave, or higher for more)
3. Let hair dry naturally and undo braid once completely dry.
4. Try pulling half back and twisting, and then secure with bobby pin. you can either have it meet in the back, or just pull back the two sides.
5. Leave the rest of hair, and break up the wave with your fingers.
(TIP: If you want even more volume in the waves, you can try back-combing with a comb or a brush)

* For short hair try twisting a small piece in the front following your hairline down to your ear and then secure with bobby pins. Cross the bobby pins to ensure the hold, or you can try parting your hair down the middle and twisting both sides.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes when you try these tricks at home!

OK, my French is a little rusty. This (I think) says that JC de Castelbajac is having a party from the 19th through 24th of May for mothers at their boutique. And then something about their women’s collection and accessories.
Anyone read French better than me?
I love Catelbajac. He made that awesome yeti eyes skirt I raved about a while back. Whatever the invitation says, if you’re in the area (France?) I’d go.

Maki Squarepatch is perhaps the cutest shop ever.
I’ve babbled on about them before, but the news is that they are now open at their new location in Singapore. I wish i could pop in and see all the cute little art pieces and clothing that they’ve got.
But you, if you’re in Singapore, you should check out their grand opening party this Friday. You’ll get a peek at the new accessories, baby blankets and other items and get to meet the awesome twosome that run the shop.
Info:
When: May 9, 7 pm
Where: 33 Bali Lane (second story)
