Betsey Johnson Rockstar Satchel

Betsey Johnson Rockstar Satchel

Betsey Johnson knows how to design over-the-top accessories – and still make them totally wearable.
Check out her “Rockstar” satchel – it’s trimmed with snakeskin embossed leather ruffles, and not just a couple of discreet little ruffles – lots of ruffles!

I love the combination of the girly ruffles and the tough faux-snakeskin.  Hey, if you’re going to carry a statement purse, you might as well have fun with it.

The satchel is lined with a lace print fabric and has interior pockets with zippers.

Summer Sale at Auto

Auto, the “lifestyle” shop based in New York City’s Meatpacking district, is holding a summer sale!
With 20% off most of their stock, you can find some amazing goodies.  They carry everything from boutique jewelry to lamps, but I of course go for the accessories section
So what kind of goodies can you find?

How about the sleek and elegant aqua-colored calfskin bag from thirtyfour?

This bright and cheerful bracelet by Ronni Kappos is made using pre-WWII vintage glass shapes, on a gold-filled chain.

How about a lovely turquoise paisley scarf, made by Epice?

When is a Purse Not Just a Purse?

It’s been awhile since I discovered ASOS, the fabulous UK shopping site that makes me think, just for a moment, I have any business wearing harem pants.
The site’s line of accessories are usually spot-on, but I do wonder from time to time just what age group ASOS aims to target with something like the straw cupcake purse?

The Hexagonal Spot Handheld Bag strikes me as more wearable, you know, on a day you’re feeling whimsical and are wearing nothing but solid white or black.
And then there’s this.

Yes, that’s a magazine, wrapped up like a newspaper, tied with a lime-green bow. Of …read more

Chanel Goes High Tech

Do you have problems with losing your MP3 player, lipstick or sunglasses in your purse?
Chanel has decided to help you out and has created a clear plastic purse with special holders for all your accessories.  The clear plastic purse debuted during their Fall/Winter fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.
Of course, whether or not we actually get to buy the “purse holder” is another thing…

And can it be customized to fit a purse that’s not a quilted Chanel?  As much as I’d love to, I just don’t think my budget will fit buying two Chanel purses!

Pretty red accents in a sea of white at the Oscars

White, cream and ivory were all hot colors on the runway last night at the Oscars – but what if you like a dash of color…

Actress Taraji P. Henson (”Queenie” in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) added a little red carpet to her style when she carried an elegant pleated red satin clutch purse.
There were a lot of classic metallic and crystal clutches on the red carpet last night, but I love the little added spice that the red added to her outfit.  It’s small enough that the color doesn’t overwhelm her outfit – but just sets it off …read more

button clutches

I have fond memories of playing with my mom’s button jars when I was a child, and to this day I still love buttons   I think that’s why I love this little clutch purse from Anthropologie so much:

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to run my hands through my button stash now…

what’s inside my bag

Okay, so I didn’t feel the need to share the week’s worth of receipts & the package of slightly squashed kleenex (that’s what happens when your dog sits on your purse!)  but even with some slight editing – here you go:

First of all, the purse is one of my own designs (it’s a perk of being a designer )
My no-name pink leather wallet… along with my pink Motorola V2 razr cell phone & matching headset.  Hmm… I’m sensing a pink theme here
I’ve got my video iPod in it’s heavy-duty aluminum case.  I’d like to carry it …read more

I’m Seeing Red

From what I can tell, red is going to be a popular color for fall. It’s a brand new color for me, so it looks as if I’m going to have to play around with it a bit. Not sure what I have to go with it. Am I in need of some major shopping??

Reminds me of something from the 40s…
