Despite the fact that women around the globe have been wearing colorful wedding dresses for, oh, I don’t know, FOREVER, American women are just now catching on. There’s something special about a bride that has the confidence to step away from tradition and wear a bold red gown on her wedding day, and this, my friends, is just for those ladies.

This Red Poppy evening gown by Ruby Pearl has a fabulously daring bodice, and multi-layered princess skirt. I love all the tulle overlay, it looks as though it’s just floating on top of the skirt. This Italian-designed gown by Lady K has a somewhat more subdued maroon hue, but it’s still going to knock some socks off. The boned bodice makes it flattering for a lot of figures, and the gold embroidery is great for a bride looking for a lot of sparkle out of her gown. Available for $796.22 from Lady K.

If you want to go red, but you’re not ready to go all the way, here’s a great option by HawKrafts. It has an almost medieval look to it, with red and gold trim and a completely breathtaking red train. Available for $500 from HawKrafts.

This sultry sequined red glamour gown by Jovani is a real showstopper. The mermaid shape with long sweep is very elegant, but the sparkly sequins and deep v-neck are all glamour-puss. Available for $500 from Unique-Vintage.

Red Wedding Gowns Impure?

Earlier this week, I posted about the Justin Alexander red wedding gown. A reader named Gray commented that the dress would be “fine for someone who isn’t ‘pure’ which is what the white dress stands for, virginity.”

In this day and age, should virgin brides be the only ones wearing white? Or another question … Is it okay for a virgin to wear a non-white wedding dress?

I don’t think that traditions should dictate what you wear at your wedding, but I’m sure many people may disagree. The style, shape, fabrics and designs of wedding dresses change all the time. So why not color?

Is a red wedding dress (or blue or another color other than white) frowned upon? Chime in with your comments and let us know.

Though many wedding traditions change of the years, one thing that stays relatively the same in the United States is white (or offwhite, ivory, etc.) wedding gowns. Though they might change in shape, style, design and fabric, most wedding gowns are generally white.

In recent years, many brides are adding a splash of color to their wedding gowns with colored lace, trim, beading and other embellishments. But how about a completely red wedding dress? Would you dare?

In China, red is the color for weddings are most other celebrations. It symbolizes happiness, good fortune and a joyous life. Most brides in China wear red wedding gowns. But in the United States, we are mostly still sticking to white.

I like the idea of a red bridal gown - it’s bold, festive and fun.

This red gown pictured is from Justin Alexander. It’s also available in Honey/Coffee. I recently saw this dress on Red Hot Brides.

It features a boned bodice in sequins, beads and Swarovski crystals. I think this dress is absolutely gorgeous. If you love red, you should really consider a red wedding dress. People will definitely remember your wedding day forever!
