I think we can thank the recession for inspiring designers to create versatile pieces that have more than one function. I am absolutely loving all of the “transformer” styles that have been popping up everywhere lately. Every category of clothing is coming up with a design that is “this slash that” so we can buy one piece and use it in a multitude of ways. Some popular takes on this idea that I have seen are a wrap dress becomes a halter dress or a bandeau dress and a scarf that becomes a hood.

The idea of the snood as a fashionable piece that can be worn as a hood or scarf has inspired many designers to push the versatility of winter headgear. We no longer have to decide whether we need to wear a scarf or a hat. Now we can choose one beautiful accessory that we can use in multiple different ways.
After writing about the snood last week, I have been obsessed with finding other designers who are exploring this idea. Susanne Guldager is a Danish designer who creates beautiful conceptual pieces with a dark and funky vibe. Her designs are daring …read more

Missoni Rib-Knit Wool-Blend Snood $205

It seems that Fall 2009 is all about making a big statement with your accessories. But what if you’re going out for a casual dinner with friends, not a black tie gala. Are there accessories that will add some extra pizazz to your outfit, without going overboard?
Absolutely!
The trick is to balance your accessories. You can still wear a great pair of chandelier earrings, just keep the rest of your accessories low-key and you can pull it off beautifully.

Okay, hipsters, I know y’all are getting tired of trying to find a scarf that no one else you know owns. It’s called the Necklush, a name so cheesy it seems as seen on tv, in the best possible way. And it looks pretty good, too. You can loop it once for a necklace-y look, and twice for this scarf-y …read more
