Convertible Scarf Transforms Into a Vest

I think we can thank the recession for inspiring designers to create versatile pieces that have more than one function.  I am absolutely loving all of the “transformer” styles that have been popping up everywhere lately.  Every category of clothing is coming up with a design that is “this slash that” so we can buy one piece and use it in a multitude of ways.  Some popular takes on this idea that I have seen are a wrap dress becomes a halter dress or a bandeau dress and a scarf that becomes a hood.
I posted two weeks ago about the …read more

Susanne Guldager Hood Scarf Combination

The idea of the snood as a fashionable piece that can be worn as a hood or scarf has inspired many designers to push the versatility of winter headgear.  We no longer have to decide whether we need to wear a scarf or a hat.  Now we can choose one beautiful accessory that we can use in multiple different ways.
After writing about the snood last week, I have been obsessed with finding other designers who are exploring this idea.  Susanne Guldager is a Danish designer who creates beautiful conceptual pieces with a dark and funky vibe.  Her designs are daring …read more

Snood Is The Must-Have Accessory for Fall

As soon as the temperature starts to drop, you will start to see snoods popping up on every fashionable woman’s head and neck.  A snood is a functional, elegant, and versatile accessory that works with different looks and changing weather.  I must get my hands on one as soon as possible…
Missoni Rib-Knit Wool-Blend Snood $205
What is a snood? Traditionally, dating back to the 1860’s, a snood was a hairpiece that wrapped around the top of the head and under the hair to the nape of the neck.  This circular wrap contained a netted or cloth sack that held the hair.  …read more

Add Some Style to a Casual Outfit

It seems that Fall 2009 is all about making a big statement with your accessories. But what if you’re going out for a casual dinner with friends, not a black tie gala.  Are there accessories that will add some extra pizazz to your outfit, without going overboard?
Absolutely!
The trick is to balance your accessories.  You can still wear a great pair of chandelier earrings, just keep the rest of your accessories low-key and you can pull it off beautifully.
A scarf is a great addition to a casual outfit.  You can loop it on over a t-shirt, or go fancy with an …read more

The Necklush Scarf Alternative

Okay, hipsters, I know y’all are getting tired of trying to find a scarf that no one else you know owns. At this point, the keffiyeh trend has gone so far mainstream that it’s nearly impossible not to look played out. We’ve started to see some fabric necklaces on the horizon, but if you’re looking for a necklace/scarf hybrid, here’s something new.
It’s called the Necklush, a name so cheesy it seems as seen on tv, in the best possible way. And it looks pretty good, too. You can loop it once for a necklace-y look, and twice for this scarf-y …read more

Beautiful Silk Headscarves from Tasaram

One of my favorite hair accessories for the summer is the headscarf.  There are so many beautiful designs and fabrics out there and it immediately brightens up an outfit to accessorize with a scarf.  I wrote recently about four easy ways to wrap a headscarf and look completely fashionable!
When searching for ways to wrap headscarves, I discovered Tasaram scarves.  Tasaram has a wonderful collection of silk scarves with designs inspired by the traditional patterns of Korea, Bhutan, India, Japan, and China.  There is a flowing description for each country about the inspirations for the scarf designs that come from the …read more

How to Wear a Summer Headscarf

I always notice gorgeous silk scarves in stores everywhere…from classic designer Pucci scarves to colorful options being sold on tables on the streets in New York.  They look so beautiful and I have always wanted to know how to tie one so that I can wear it and look fashionable.
Most hairstyles work best with a silk, or other very thin material, square scarf that is between 24″ and 36″ on each side.  Here are my favorite ways to wear a headscarf this summer:
