Don’t know how to tie a scarf?

Do you love the look of scarves, but aren’t quite sure how to wear or tie one?
Texere Silk has a great online guide with dozens of ways to tie a scarf.  Try out the classic shoulder wrap for an added touch of style around your arms.  Want to sport a Diana Vreeland-inspired turban?  How about adding a feminine twist to the masculine tie?
And of course, you need a new scarf to show off your scarf-tying skills, right?  How about the Pucci “Diamante” silk scarf:

Made in the USA

In honor of the inauguration happening today, today’s picks are kitten heel shoes, made in the USA – perfect for the new First Lady!
California Magdesians is a shoe company, based in Los Angeles.  They’ve been creating quality shoes for almost 60 years – all them in the USA.  I think they would make a great choice for Michelle Obama – after all, what’s better than supporting craftspeople in her own country?
“Carole” made from peau fabric (a type of satin) with patent leather accents:

“Liv-R” peep-toes add a touch of sex appeal to the kitten-heel pump:

Her Accessories – favorite fashion picks from 2008

It’s become a tradition for me to do a year-end round up of my favorite fashion accessory picks from the year.  I’ve got great designs, hot celebrity styles… and possibly even a fashion goof-up as well!
in no particular order – but with a sense of fun, here you go

Beyonce’s (or I should say “Sasha’s”) robot glove is definitely a style goof – at least to me…
I think Michelle Obama is ushering in an era of elegant and yet low-key style to the White House.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s hat at the London premier of the Sex and the City movie …read more

How do you like your cashmere?

It’s Monday…
It’s snowing…
You just got home from a day at the office – complete with five full rotations of “Bubba’s Favorite Christmas Songs for Kazoo and Electric Guitar”…
And you have holiday shopping to do…
Here’s a suggestion, stay at home – curl up on the couch, make a cup of hot chocolate and wrap yourself up in this:

That’s a “Dégradé” cashmere wrap from La Fiorentina.  Gradiated colors are so hot right now – and this is a lovely – and cozy way to add it to your wardrobe.
And don’t forget… you can always get your Christmas shopping done online – from …read more

silk and cashmere for cool nights

My love of shawls, wraps and stoles continues unabated – which is, of course why I chose this cashmere wrap  for today’s accessory pick:

Indie designer J’emmajo creates these one-of-a-kind cashmere wraps using “upcycled” bits of fabric from dressmaker’s scraps.  Each wrap is accented with slivers of silk, rayon and other evening dress fabrics.

chic & chunky wool scarves

Chunky wool scarves, wraps and cowls have made their way down several catwalks – and judging from the amount of frost on my front lawn this morning – it’s perfect timing to bring them out!
I love supporting indie designers, and Etsy is full of fantastic, trendy designs – check out this hand-knitted wool cowl by New York designer, Spratters & Jayne:

Fashionable and cozy – now there’s a happy mix

Pucci shawls to scare off the chills

Shawls, wraps and stoles are a great way to go from warm summery-feeling days to crisper, autumn nights.
You can wrap them around your shoulders, knot them around your neck or drape it across your arm if you’re a little too toasty.
My pick for a lovely shawl that will see you through the late summer all the way to next spring?  Pucci’s silk and lurex “Amelie“:

one of a kind accessories from Hoakan/Helga

I was just recently introduced to the design company of Hoakan/Helga and their unique collection of jewelry, bags & scarves.
They specialize in one-of-a kind designs, with vintage, re-purposed and hand-dyed accessories, like this “Long Scarf“:

It’s 100% silk, dyed with natural dyes and then rusted – too cool!
The “Eva” bag is made from vintage leather, hand-printed cotton and a vintage dress:

And of course, I needed to include this charming “Two Bird” necklace – it’s created from vintage jewelry and recycled chain:

Wear your love of letters on your… neck?

I think the laser-cut microsuede scarf from Little Factory is just too cool!

It’s made entirely of letters – they also make a “numbers” version, or if you want to be really emphatic – all upper-case letters
(Thanks to Boing Boing)
